Historia
Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend. Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two.

Narrator ends all her sentences like a question…
Revisado: 09-24-22
I really enjoyed the story so full marks for that. My only issue is the narrator - at first I really liked the general tone of her voice (not too high or low, not too nasal), but as I kept listening I noticed I was getting distracted by the sound of her (which doesn’t usually happen to me when I listen to audiobooks). I realized it’s because she ends all of her sentences with an upward inflection, whether they are questions or not. In fact, sometimes depending on where she puts a pause in the middle of a phrase, there are extra upward inflection‘s sprinkled in just to drive me crazy. Unfortunately, once you notice it it’s all you can hear. The words became meaningless because I was just waiting for the next upward inflection where it shouldn’t be. In the end, I had to stop listening to the audiobook and just finish the book in kindle format.

Historia
Tatum Alexander is so close to realizing her dream of becoming a sous chef she can taste it, but working at her ex-fiancé’s restaurant with his new girlfriend was never in her career plan. To save face and prove she’s moved on, Tatum cooks up a lie that she’s in a relationship with her best friend’s superhot cousin. There’s just one problem: Jason only recently moved to town, and he has no idea they’re already “dating.” Jason’s a recovering ladies’ man who shouldn’t be on the menu, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune to Tatum’s quirky charm.

Not my favorite…
Revisado: 02-02-22
I love a good romcom, and the premise of the story sounded like it would be fun! But the truth is when I started reading this story I just kept waiting for something to happen that would make me like the protagonist, and it never did. I can set aside the fact that it’s incredibly clichéd, and that the descriptions of things are always wildly over exaggerated, but it’s hard to set aside the fact that the main character is just so unlikable. She lies more than she tells the truth, and in completely idiotic ways too. In the end, I did power through and finish the story. The story itself isn’t the worst one in the world I can kind of get on board with it, it’s just the main character and the descriptions of things that are so hard to get past. Wish I could return this one.

Historia
With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn't interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet's misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match.

AWFUL male narrator! Not a bad read.
Revisado: 10-08-19
The other reviewers are completely correct- the male narrator absolutely destroys it. He does such an awful accent it's a wonder they chose this route at all. Also he puts on kind of a higher voice for the male lead, and then goes lower for other minor characters, which feels out of place. The lower tone definitely sounds more natural and he should have stayed more in that register.
As for the story- it's a cute story. I love a good hockey book, and this one isn't the worst. One of my bigger pet peeves would be the word choices. While the story itself is fun, the way things are described is super abrasive, and feels like someone who hasn't got a lot of sexual experience is trying to think of what "sexy" and "cool" MIGHT be. It misses the mark for sure. It's often distracting and pulls me away from what should be sentimental or romantic moments.
Like I said though. It's not bad overall, but due to the word choices I do kinda feel like I'm just trying to get through this one so I can hopefully enjoy the rest of the series more... Finger crossed!
