I quit this book after his first time getting 'Glory' from a quest. I'm so mad at this book. It had so much promise and I feel like the book description lied to me.

The new world is Skyrim 2. I'm not kidding. The MC gets hit by a truck, and the US government saves his brain by putting it in a video game to train him to become a super soldier who controls drones with what's ever left of his brain. oh and I missed it but it seems like if you die in the game the government just unplugs you or so the MC is acting. The MC also acts as if he is in another world despite knowing and believing he's in a game. I mean, this man gets sick and wants to cry after killing rats. Yes, rats. Man-eating rats, at that. Every time he has to kill something, he throws up. This man is having a mental breakdown over killing monsters in a video game. Then he meets someone who admits to killing one of her last party members and willingly invited her to his group. And we're ment to like this woman who kills her party members over loot.

The Mcs Shadow magic? Requires there be shadows. Does he get a spell to create shadows? Maybe, but I stopped listening when he was around level 5 and still couldn't. But you know what an option he could have gotten was to make his or another's shadow disappear. That would be cool if he ever had to face another shadow mage, but why would you ever take a spell that shoots you in the foot?

The one thing this book had going for it, the Glory mechanic, turns out not that interesting, or at least its first use wasn't. It's a resource pool that drains over time, so use it when you get it. That enhances what you can already do, but you can only spend as much Glory as your level peruse.

It's a fun, well-paced story, but oh lordy, does she read slowly. I can hear every pause, breath, and period. I bumped up the speed to 1.75 from 1.50, and everything smoothed out.

This book starts by traumatizing the Mc with a side bonus of saying you know what? Now you're also 20 lvls behind everyone in this grand race to find the hidden door. Which could have been cool, but we don't get a fun pirate arc. We get an arc where "the tower" cheats putting in enemies that have to be fought at the bottom of the sea that are also much stronger than everyone even the cool new shadow girl and her grim reaper look.

If you've seen the anime Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor or read the light novels of the same name, you can see a lot of inspiration the author pulled from. It's a good book in its own right, but it's hard not to compare the two, at least for me.

I've been waiting for this book ever since book 3 got released and did enjoy it for the most part. there were only two things that bothered me. the first is the author's clear love for the vile king having him pull off some absolutely insane shit and just not explaining how and the second is Michael's almost inability to think through the consequences of changing shit with his future knowledge. he's seen that the time line changed in book one yet here we are in book four and he's finally starting to maybe stop expecting everything to be a one to one. The big bad even gets a massive buff simply because the mc doesn't think maybe just maybe he should investigate why thing happened as they did in the last time line.

It's a good old murder festival. The MC wants to go to the end of the world and is willing to kill everything in her way. When we cut away from the MC, we get world-building and hints that some chosen one stuff is going on. Overall, it's a fun first book that shows a lot of promise when the MC finally returns to camp.

The story is quick. there's enough space for you to take everything in but it sweeps you up and you lose track time and before you know it the books over. it definitely worth the credit hears hoping that the next book is longer.

It's good to get a book about cultivation actually set in the east. the narrator does a good job and sounds like they're having fun.

The book is good but has problems.

This book has multiple plot points from different POVs, which leads to pacing issues. Most of them could use a bit more time to flush out so that we can follow why an antagonist is doing what he's doing. Another example is we spent such little time with the MC that I had to go back and check who it was, and the time we do spend with him seems to both drag on while blurring past.

It's a good start to a series, but man, I hope he can fix the odd pacing. I have hope that it will get fixed in the next book.

So Deadman Walking was a lot of setup. It feels like a royal road book because there are three or four mini-arcs in the book. I say it's worth the price, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
