Didn’t love
Revisado: 07-30-24
I wanted to love this book much more than I did but it never evoked the feelings and character connections within me that make books so special. The whole tone was pretty flat and dull, regardless of the heartbreaking realities described. Also, as a big WWII fiction fan, this was the first book I’ve read with such a strong central theme of God and religious belief which I was neither prepared for nor did I appreciate.

Revisado: 07-23-24
The characters and plot are so good but my favorite part of this book has to be the narrator.

Forty-two-year-old Mia Thorne is not living her best life. After a disastrous career-and-relationship-ending event, she escapes New York City and moves to a sleepy river town in Pennsylvania, courtesy of a dead aunt she never knew. Aunt Hazel was the reclusive family nut, a self-proclaimed psychic. Of course, Mia’s dad always told her that she, too, had the gift, but after his death, her mother made sure to squelch the notion. When Mia stumbles over a body in the overgrown garden, the newcomer catches the eye of the police chief and his hotshot detective, Derek Fairfax.

So bad. Cheesy, terrible narration - every phrase ends on an up about a story that gives boomer writes as millennial. Gave it 3 hours and I literally don’t care what happens at the end.

Heart wrenching story so beautifully written
Revisado: 02-10-24
The deep love and deeper sorrow I felt for so many characters in this story… it’s one of those books that sticks with you long after you’ve finished. It was so real and told so perfectly by the narrator - absolutely beautifully written, I loved it.
That being said, I would only recommend to those who are strong in their mental health as it’s very, very heavy all the way through and will weigh on you.

Beautiful story
Revisado: 12-03-23
As far as Kristen Hannah books go, this was the first one that threw me for a loop before I fully committed at about the half way point. That being said, the character development and everything about the story was so pure and beautiful that I’d easily recommend to any and all of my fellow fiction fans.

What a life
Revisado: 11-28-23
I’ve always wanted to read this memoir and regrettably, it took his death to finally pull the trigger. Overall, I found it to be very interesting and overwhelmingly heartbreaking. That said, after a certain point it all became somewhat of a broken record - I felt like he was repeating the same thing over and over - but that was his life and the relapses were his story. Which is so incredibly sad for Matthew, his loved ones, and his fans. May he rest in peace. 💖

Historia
Emerson, Georgia, and Marley have been best friends ever since they met at a weight-loss camp as teens. When Emerson tragically passes away, she leaves one final wish for her best friends: to conquer the fears they still carry as adults. For Marley, it's coming to terms with the survivor's guilt she's carried around since her twin sister's death, which has left her blind to the real chance for romance in her life. For Georgia, it's learning to stop trying to live up to her mother's and brother's ridiculous standards and learning to accept love.

Beautiful
Revisado: 11-06-23
This was such a beautiful story that moved at a perfect pace with lovable, well-developed characters. I feel it may be quite triggering for people who struggle with self image/esteem due to weight problems, especially if the mental pain has been left untreated/therapized. But it may also bring peace and acceptance as well. Either way, I loved the story.

Just okay 🤷🏻♀️
Revisado: 10-25-23
The narrator was terrible at the beginning. I’m not sure if he improved or I just got used to it as the story went on but luckily he didn’t bother me throughout. As far as the story goes, I didn’t understand where the “sub plot” was coming from and was largely confused until about 3/4 of the way thru. Perhaps I missed its introduction (because admittedly I was not overly interested) or just didn’t catch on as quickly as one should. I also don’t see why the author chose such underdeveloped characters for such big roles in the end as it made certain outcomes a bit anticlimactic. Either way, what started as a pretty odd and not overly intriguing story ended up being decent in the end. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to friends but a decent read nonetheless.

I really ended up enjoying this book - the first half was a little slow but the second was very good with great character development and satisfying ending.
