Historia
In Disunited Nations, geopolitical strategist Peter Zeihan presents a series of counterintuitive arguments about the future of a world where trade agreements are coming apart and international institutions are losing their power. Germany will decline as the most powerful country in Europe, with France taking its place. Every country should prepare for the collapse of China, not North Korea. We are already seeing, as Zeihan predicts, a shift in outlook on the Middle East: it is no longer Iran that is the region’s most dangerous threat, but Saudi Arabia.

Thank God this was Peter’s third and not first book that I listen to.
Revisado: 08-21-24
I really like Peter’s other audio books and like the other books this one’s material is incredible, but Peter, please do not let someone else read another one of your books. The narrator is actually a great narrator, but Peter’s words and phraseology require a quirky reading that only the author can provide. After listening to the other books that were read by the author this one was just weird.

Surprised by this book.
Revisado: 02-04-24
Unabridged, it is a much deeper book than the abridged version you probably read in elementary school. Politics, religion, colonialism, humanity, sci-fi—it is all in here. Published in 1726, the better your knowledge of history, the deeper the value this book will hold.

Historia
Over the course of his seemingly irreproachable life, Magnus Pym has been all things to all people: a devoted family man, a trusted colleague, a loyal friend - and the perfect spy. But in the wake of his estranged father's death, Magnus vanishes, and the British Secret Service is up in arms. Is it grief, or is the reason for his disappearance more sinister? And who is the mysterious man with the sad moustache who also seems to be looking for Magnus? In A Perfect Spy, John le Carré has crafted one of his crowning masterpieces.

What a good audiobook. Recommend watching Le Carre’s last interview afterward (or before) completing the book. Real life characters from his life are weaved throughout the book.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire that stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

Loved the history lesson, the narration is taxing at times.

The narrator is very professional, but at times his nasally sounding voice can often remind you of the teacher from Ferris Bueller, “Bueller, Bueller, Bueller?”

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

Pretty disappointed in this one. I certainly expect more from Margaret Atwood. In someways, it was like listening to a young child, telling you a story; you could tell where the story was going the whole time but you patiently listened in order to be respectful.

Historia
The First World War created the modern world. A conflict of unprecedented ferocity, it abruptly ended the relative peace and prosperity of the Victorian era, unleashing such demons of the 20th century as mechanized warfare and mass death. It also helped to usher in the ideas that have shaped our times - modernism in the arts, new approaches to psychology and medicine, radical thoughts about economics and society - and in so doing shattered the faith in rationalism and liberalism that had prevailed in Europe since the Enlightenment.

A positive…it depends
Revisado: 06-16-22
Whether I would recommend this book or not depends on what the reader hopes to gain. If you want every little detail about the first world war, no matter how esoteric, this is your book. If you’re just curious about the first world war and want someone to hit the high points in the big ideas and concepts, this book is probably not for you. It is a fascinating and well researched tale but unless you are incredibly familiar with the geography of Europe it is hard to follow along in audiobook format without a map. If you are truly fascinated by the history of the first world war and want to study it I would highly recommend this book in hardback format.

Historia
A thrilling and revelatory narrative of one of the most epic and consequential periods in 20th century history - the Arab Revolt and the secret “great game” to control the Middle East. Lawrence in Arabia definitively overturns received wisdom on how the modern Middle East was formed. Sweeping in its action, keen in its portraiture, acid in its condemnation of the destruction wrought by European colonial plots, this is a book that brilliantly captures the way in which the folly of the past creates the anguish of the present.

Revisado: 05-17-22
I do highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to understand the 20th century. The roots of much of the latter half of the 20th century can trace their roots to the first world war. I think, at least in the United States, the second world war overshadows the importance of the First World War. Having served in Afghanistan and Iraq Lawrences stories are very relatable. But his life was ultimately a very sad one. That’s a shame because I think he truly had nothing but the best intentions.

This is a very unique book. The artistic value and high quality of writing is very apparent. I just found myself often not liking the characters and wondering if their life long misery, despite their many blessings, were deserved.

The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

There’s a reason Kahneman won a Nobel prize, but it wasn’t for writing a page turning thriller. Great book, but not an “easy listen” by any stretch of the imagination. I feel smarter for having listened to it but you have to pay attention to follow along and visualize his charts and graphs.

Historia
When we think about the future of war, the military and Washington and most everyone gets it backwards. We think in terms of buying single military systems, such as fighter jets or aircraft carriers. And when we think about modernizing those systems, we think about buying better versions of the same things. But what really matters is not the single system but "the battle network"—the collection of sensors and shooters that enables a military to find an enemy system, target it, and attack it.

You Can’t Handle the Truth!!!
Revisado: 08-28-20
Excellent book read by the author. This is a book that all military officers, senior military civilians, members of Congress and defense contractors should read—then do some serious reflecting. A shift in power is happening regardless. The question is will we learn or continue blindly down this dead end street.
