Revisado: 11-26-23
That Begin Transmission is a phenomenal work. A deep dive into a groundbreaking sci-fi franchise and shining a light on what lies beneath a great story- an allegory about the transgender experience. Tilly’s passion for and love of the topic is evident in every word she writes, and speaking those words in her own voice, her true voice, just brings that out even more. Absolutely recommended whether you’re secure in your identity or still putting things together. Take the ORIGINAL red pill and find out just how deep the rabbit hole goes. You may surprise yourself. And maybe even find yourself.

Revisado: 07-09-18
Linda Stephenson has created a wonderful world, giving us a peek into WWI Britain. The characters (including a flatulent pup!) are well formed and each have their own voice, and the book even touches on themes not often encountered in stories set in this time period. Wonderfully narrated by Julia Eve, Miss Hewitt's world is one to which I cannot wait to return.

Pulp Goodness
Revisado: 11-09-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If they're into pulp/noir stories, than absolutely. It's 30 + hours of gripping tales from a universe that is both new to many listeners but at the same time familiar.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Very much. Since I listen in the car, I would catch myself staying in the car a bit longer after I've arrived at my destination just to finish the chapter or the entire story.
What about Pete Milan’s performance did you like?
You can tell that Milan enjoys this type of story. Despite the amazing number of characters and accents involved in this omnibus, Pete manages to make every one of them a unique one, and he pulls off the Max/Peregrine voice switch on a level with Kevin Conroy's switch between Bruce Wayne and the Batman.Fantastic work, especially considering just how much material there is!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"When good is swallowed by the dark, there the Peregrine shall leave his mark"
Any additional comments?
While the book is mostly PG-13, there are a few sequences that tread perilously close to that R rating. Primarily gore and sexual violence, so be warned. Also, the end of the book contains a timeline of the entire "universe" that contains spoilers for later stories in the series.

If the past eight months have taught me anything, it's that being a superhero sucks. Here is why: I'm irreversibly bonded to M, an alien life form that only I can hear; I constantly have to be on guard to keep my secret identity secret-like; I fight supervillains like Dr. Villainous, Deathbot, and the Glop every other day; and the greatest, most hardest suck of them all - I pissed off Liberty, the world's greatest hero.

One of the most famous partnerships in literature yields, over time, to a peculiar romantic triangle. Sherlock Holmes. Dr. John Watson. And the good doctor's second wife, whom Doyle never named. In L.A. Fields's novel, Mrs. Watson is a clever woman who realizes, through examining all the prior cases her husband shared with the world's greatest consulting detective, that the two men shared more than adventures: they were lovers, as well.

The untold story behind the stories
Revisado: 03-13-16
Any additional comments?
Melissa Hearne gives an outstanding performance in a book that takes characters we've known for long time down a different path. The story within the stories, if you will. Taking this look at Holmes and Watson's relationship may not be for everyone, but if you're willing to give it a listen, I think you'll find quite an entertaining, and even poignant, tale.

Have you ever been really good at something and not allowed yourself to do it? And I'm not talking about something small, like making cappuccinos (but that's a real talent, too, especially when you add the milk leaf, which Grace the barista is either incapable of or unwilling to do). No, I'm talking about something hugely, mind bogglingly big. Creating Star Wars Episode IV big. I'm talking about saving people.

Best in the series so far!
Revisado: 03-13-16
What made the experience of listening to Superheroes in Prose, Volume Three: Paradigm the most enjoyable?
Bryan Reid has an excellent reading voice, and he manages to give life to multiple characters very effortlessly, switching from the evil Dr. Villainous to valley-girl Pink to the enigmatic M with ease.
Any additional comments?
Much like movie sequels, now that the first books have gotten the origin stories out of the way, the series can finally start really getting into the meat of the saga. The stakes are raised higher as Gabe begins to discover more about what it means to be a Hero and what his place really is in this world. And the cliffhanger ending will definitely leave you excited for the next installment! Great job all around!

Is God Real, and if so, Does God Give A Damn?
Revisado: 02-01-16
Any additional comments?
I'm not entirely sure what I expected from this book, but it came highly recommended and was narrated by one of my favorites in Chris Barnes, so I gave it a whirl and was not disappointed.
It takes the eternal question of "Is God Real?" and manages to spin it into a gripping tale that, while not your "traditional" horror novel, still manages to deliver thrills, chills and gore. While I have listened to Chris Barnes' narration on many occasions, I was unfamiliar with Kit Power, but now I look forward to seeing what else they have in store.
With a varied group of characters and an ending you won't see coming, God Bomb is definitely worth your attention.

A fitting end to an amazing trilogy
Revisado: 02-01-16
Any additional comments?
Graeme Reynolds has brought us a fine end to his High Moor Trilogy, combining the fantastic of werewolves and the every day problems of immigration and government gone rampant. He manages to use his characters as a wonderful way to reflect many of the issues currently plaguing society and the UK in particular.
As always the book is ably narrated by Chris Barnes, who continues to bring his A game with perhaps his best performance yet, really cutting to the bone with some of the most visceral and most heartbreaking material of the series.
While we'll always want more of our favorite wolves, the trilogy has been brought to a wonderful end that even in its final pages still manages to draw directly from the headlines. You will not be disappointed!

Looking for love in unexpected places
Revisado: 06-19-15
What did you love best about The Giddy Death of the Gays & the Strange Demise of Straights?
It's very well written, of course. It's a great look into the changing faces of love and sexuality and how one doesn't always correlate with the other. They also give a wonderful look into the edges at least of polyamoury and how it affects not only the lives of the people involved in the relationship, but the relationships around them.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Giddy Death of the Gays & the Strange Demise of Straights?
While the actual "linear" story is quite good, there are several flash forwards as well which, while they may spoil a bit of the story, they're very effective and brought me to tears.
What about Fiona Thraille’s performance did you like?
Excellent job! Her accent put you right in the midst of Swansea, and definitely makes you feel like you're there. She also never leaves any doubt about who is speaking, differentiating the characters effortlessly.
Any additional comments?
Phenomenal account of the changing face of relationships in the 21st century. Brought me to tears several times (which isn't good when you're listening while driving!). If you're not used to gender-neutral pronouns, it can be a bit distracting at first while you try to parse them, but trust me, they're there for a very good reason. Well done!

The town of Carruthers, Texas, has seen its share of drifters and lowlifes but never anyone like Steven and Earl. They move from town to town, hustling the pool halls, raising a little hell, drinking a little blood. They sleep by day and hunt by night - the ultimate predators. The perfect life. Until now. A barroom brawl ends in disaster. The soil from Steven's grave has been stolen. A young boy's death sparks an all-out war between vampires and mortals, which will turn the local Frontier Day celebration into a bloodbath....

Not your average vampire story
Revisado: 06-14-15
If you could sum up Less than Human in three words, what would they be?
Hustling. Not Sparkling.
What did you like best about this story?
Definitely the focus on Native American characters. Very under represented in fiction.
Which scene was your favorite?
Probably the scene in the graveyard. The pool scenes are also very well done- it's obvious the author has a lot of experience playing pool!
Any additional comments?
Bryan Reid delivers a fine performance, clearly defining the characters with his voice. My big complaint is that a lot of time, the author gets a little too deep into backstory and tends to stray farther from the plot than is necessary. But it does manage to tie up at the end, and you get to your destination, even if you're taking a bit more of a scenic route than you think you should.
