Sadly Not a Favorite
Revisado: 03-15-25
To be honest, this has been my least favorite Colleen Hoover book. It was good, but very different from her usual writing. Some of the voices/pronunciations were pretty obnoxious.

Historia
After a tragic accident claims the life of one of her children, Marie Egide is desperate to carve out a fresh start for her family. With her husband and their three surviving children, Marie travels to New Hampshire, where she plans to sell a family estate and then, just maybe, they’ll be able to heal from their grief. Marie’s plans are thwarted when she realizes a war veteran known by locals as “the river witch” is living in a cabin on the property, which she claims was a gift from Marie’s grandfather. If Davina refuses to move on, Marie won’t be able to either.

Not Her Best Book
Revisado: 05-06-24
I have read or listened to all of Suzanne Redfearn’s books and usually can’t put them down. This one I could not get into. From start to finish I was bored with the storyline and if it hadn’t been her book I wouldn’t have finished it. Hopefully just a one off but very unfortunate.

Historia
Mike Rinder’s parents began taking him to their local Scientology center when he was five years old. After high school, he signed a billion-year contract and was admitted into Scientology’s elite inner circle, the Sea Organization. Brought to founder L. Ron Hubbard’s yacht and promised training in Hubbard’s most advanced techniques, Rinder was instead put to work swabbing the decks. Still, Rinder bought into the doctrine that his personal comfort was secondary to the higher purpose of Hubbard’s world-saving mission.

Most Realistic View of Scientology Ever Written
Revisado: 01-07-24
Mike Rinder is an incredibly strong man. His story of growing up in and escaping this cult is incredible. So sad that so many years were wasted trying to do what he thought was right his whole life. My heart breaks for him and his family members that are still involved in Scientology.

Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Inspiring and Enlightening
Revisado: 09-29-23
Jill was so incredibly brave to write this all down. I have always wondered what happened with Josh and the Duggar family, and Jill’s account fills in a lot of the gaps. It is also very interesting to hear it all from her perspective, and her husband’s. I hope she and her family can live in peace now and raise their kids however they choose. What good, beautiful people they are.

Historia
After his December 2003 arrest, registered nurse Charlie Cullen was quickly dubbed "The Angel of Death" by the media. But Cullen was no mercy killer, nor was he a simple monster. He was a favorite son, husband, beloved father, best friend, and celebrated caregiver. Implicated in the deaths of as many as 300 patients, he was also perhaps the most prolific serial killer in American history.

Missed Opportunity
Revisado: 08-31-23
I hate to say this about such a sad and true story, but the opportunity to make this a lot more interesting to listen to was missed. It was really just hours and hours of facts being stated, no emotion, no intensity. I would have liked to have been able to connect more with victims and families. I had a hard time finishing it.

Historia
Seventy years ago, Joe Rubinstein walked out of a Nazi concentration camp. Until now, his story has been hidden from the world. Shortly before dawn on a frigid morning in Radom, Poland, 21-year-old Joe answered a knock at the door of the cottage he shared with his widowed mother and siblings. German soldiers forced him onto a crowded open-air truck. Wearing only an undershirt and shorts, Joe was left on the truck with no protection from the cold. By the next morning, several around him would be dead. From there, things got worse for young Joe, much worse.

Historia
Natalie Queiroz was eight months pregnant when she was stabbed by her partner in the most vicious attack imaginable. In the space of nine minutes, and in broad daylight, Natalie was stabbed 24 times with a carving knife. She suffered horrific wounds to her lungs, liver, stomach and uterus, whilst the knife missed her baby by a margin of two millimetres, before the arteries in her wrists were methodically severed by the attacker she finally realised was her partner. After heroic intervention by passers-by and police, the attack was brought to an end, but her ordeal was not over.

Gut Wrenching and Inspiring
Revisado: 03-24-22
I am almost beyond words. Though I know I will never fully feel or understand how this experience has felt for her, she has managed to portray the pain and heartbreak so intensely. I listened almost from start to finish, sometimes nauseous, my jaw dropping. My heart just aches for her and her girls. From the bottom of my heart I hope they find their happiness. I only wish Bob was never to see the light of day again.

Historia
When Notes on a Silencing hit bookstores in the summer of 2020, even amidst a global pandemic, it sent shockwaves through the country. Not only did this intimate investigative memoir usher in a media storm of coverage, but it also prompted the elite St. Paul's School to issue a formal apology to the author, Lacy Crawford, for its handling of her report of sexual assault by two fellow students nearly 30 years ago.

Courageous Writer, Excellent Narration

I am glad the author told her story, especially considering how hard “they” tried to keep her quiet over the years. It felt a bit repetitive at times but overall it was a great listen.
