From Bad-ass warrior to crying mother.

First off I love Julie as a character. Shes a no-nonsense warrior. A true solid foundation. I've had 6 books building this image up in my head. 6 books where she's constantly level headed and strong, but then there's this novel.

The Narration:
I like Bailey Carr, she does a great job narrating books. I have a few she's done, and she always does a good job. I don't think she was the best choice for this novel. Her voice just seems to high for the character, too suburban mom is that makes sense. With a book loaded with male protagonists, she lacks a diverse enough "male" voice range. I'm also always curious of the narrators ever meet with their predecessors, or the publishing company reaches out to the author to dispute pronunciation. Again I've had 6 books where characters and artifacts had a specific pronunciation, in a few cases I didn't recognize what was being said until much later. It was well spoken but just not the best casting.

Story:
Of the 7 books so far this seemed to have the weakest story, it's also the shortest. In previous novels the stakes were on the scale of city or global extinction, this is all about (avoiding spoilers) Julies struggle with motherhood. There is one central baddie that is semi present and seems to come and go at a whim. Everything seems to convenient and yet drawn out. As in traveling segments take forever and action sequences don't seem hectic. "Oh he must have left us alone lets leave" kind of convenient.

The whole books just, (and likely is) just a bridge until the next book when they (hopefully) finally fight Asog. It's an entire novel based on 10 minutes of conversation from the 6th book.

It's worth the read but its a shock coming off the 6th.

It's a very informative and in depth look in to the founding, rise and (small) fall of Nintendo.
Sometimes it seems like a bit too much info, and some of the chapters seem a bit repetitive. Its preformed well and I leaned some neat info.

It's a nerdgasm. Fun, short and sweet.

It's a fun short (very short) book crammed with every possible pop culture reference crammed in to it. If Reddit was a novel.
It is very fun and random and doesn't overstay its welcome. I just wish it was not $11, it seems like a waste of a credit for something only 2 hours long. Now it does not need to be any longer but it needs to reflect that. I would be much happier if it bundles the sequel in to one package or I got it on sale.

I'm usually very good at determining what's going to happen in a book before it happens or piecing together some things bit by bit happily a lot of the turns of this book were pretty unpredictable. I do however think they focused a little too much on the political correctness
