Any additional comments?
While it is always a pleasure to listen to such excellent actors, I was not very pleased with the magnitude of the cuts to the original. There was a great deal left out that, I feel, quite altered the presentation of the characters. I was also somewhat annoyed not to find anywhere a complete list of the players. Irritating.

Historia
The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency was supposed to be a secret constabulary, but after the success of their first case, all of London knows that Lady Ada and Mary are the girls to go to if you have a problem. Their new case is a puzzle indeed. It involves a horrible hospital, a missing will, a hasty engagement, and a suspiciously slippery servant. But Mary's stumbled onto a mystery of her own. She spotted a ghostly girl in a grey gown dashing through the park. A girl who is the spitting image of their new client.

Lively story, very ably read. I found it occasionally a bit on the didactic side, but mostly a good deal of fun.

Historia
A coming-of-age tale for the young and naïve 17-year-old Catherine Morland, Northanger Abbey takes a decidedly comical look at themes of class, family, love and literature. Revelling in the sensationalist - and extremely popular - Gothic fiction of her day, the story follows Catherine out of Bath to the lofty manor of the Tilneys, where her overactive imagination gets to work constructing an absurd and melodramatic explanation for the death of Mrs Tilney, which threatens to jeopardise her newly forged friendships.

Merrily sarcastic
Revisado: 08-04-17
I enjoyed this audio version even more than the original. This would be in part due to Emma Thompson's hilariously ironic delivery as the narrator, but the other players were also excellent. I particularly liked Lily Cole, as Isabella; her husky and petulant voice well suited the character and reminded me a little of the great Joan Greenwood.

Historia
At the end of The Last Kingdom, The Danes had been defeated at Cynuit, but the triumph of the English is not fated to last long. The Danish Vikings quickly invade and occupy three of England's four kingdoms - and all that remains of the once proud country is a small piece of marshland, where Alfred and his family live with a few soldiers and retainers, including Uhtred, the dispossessed English nobleman who was raised by Danes.

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex, Alfred's kingdom and the last territory in English hands, Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane.

Splendid narration
Revisado: 09-10-16
I'm not at all sure I would have enjoyed this story quite so much had I read it myself. There's a good deal of battle stuff, usually something I skim over, but this narrator, Jonathan Keeble, is just so good and so engaging. He actually gave me a glimpse of a warrior's joy in battle. I was also delighted with the seeming effortless ease with which he portrayed each character with a distinctive voice and moved among them and the different accents. Brilliant.
