Historia
From prehistory to the present-day conservation movement, Stephen Pyne explores the efforts of successive American cultures to master wildfire and to use it to shape the landscape. A timely environmental classic. Pyne was named by Science magazine as "the world's leading authority on the history of fire." The narrator of Fire in America, Jack de Golia, served as a firefighter with the National Park Service and then as a fire information officer for the NPS, Bureau of Land Management and US Forest Service.

Very advanced
Revisado: 06-01-24
Narrator was fine. This book is like an advanced college book. Way over my head. I didn’t finish it and actually returned it which I don’t do often. If you known your stuff you’ll probably love it. Good luck.

Historia
On September 11, 2018, Navy SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher - a highly-decorated combat veteran with nine deployments to war zones in Africa, Afghanistan, and Iraq - was arrested for war crimes at the TBI medical clinic where he was receiving treatment. His incarceration was the culmination of a year-long whisper campaign started by a group of disgruntled members of his SEAL platoon. While heavily covered in the media, the full story of how a war hero was railroaded and nearly sent to prison for life for crimes he didn't commit has never been told.

Had to return
Revisado: 04-11-23
This book was impossible to listen to. The narrator was just dreadful, like reading a cookbook. So many editing errors in editing. It is a shameful production. I will read this story but I’m not going to keep this book.

Historia
David Brown was the consummate entrepreneur: a computer wizard and millionaire by age thirty-two. When his beautiful young wife was shot to death as she slept, Brown's fourteen-year-old daughter, Cinnamon, confessed to killing her stepmother. The California courts sentenced her harshly: twenty-four years to life. But in the wake of Cinnamon's murder conviction, thanks in part to two determined lawmen, the twisted private world of David Brown himself unfolded with astonishing clarity—revealing a trail of perverse love, twisted secrets, and evil mind games.

WAY TOO LONG
Revisado: 09-07-22
Narrator’s male voice is poor but the rest is OK.
The story is very circular and was boring to me. There is an abridged version of this book which would probably be better.
Definitely not worth the credit.

Historia
Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell returned from his star-crossed mission in Afghanistan with his bones shattered and his heart broken. So many had given their lives to save him-and he would have readily done the same for them. As he recuperated, he wondered why he and others, from America's founding to today, had been willing to sacrifice everything-including themselves-for the sake of family, nation, and freedom.

Increase narration to 1.2, really helped me
Revisado: 08-07-22
Not much story that we haven’t heard before.
Narration without speeding up is really intolerable. I was going to quit the book until I sped it up. That solved the problem
I wanted to love this book but I think narration wrecked it.

Historia
There is but one aim: the summit, the summit of Mount Everest. What starts with a trouble-free trek into the Nepalese highlands explodes into a gripping tale of hardship, peril, and adversity. Pushed beyond their physical and mental limits, climbers drop by the wayside. Their primal instincts for survival battle with their dogged resolve to drag themselves to the top of the world. But the focus remains: battle to the summit, and if successful, somehow get back down again.

Revisado: 08-01-22
I’ve never thought climbing Everest looked appealing. This book tells in depth how it feels to do it. Painful, scary, stressful, hunger, thirst, and the list goes on. A great book and very different from other climbing books.

The government has passed sweeping new laws to monitor all citizens. And several young pregnant women have vanished without trace. Historia
In this gripping, intimate memoir about health, illness, and the invisible reverberating effects of our medical system, Standefer recounts the astonishing true story of the rare diagnosis that upended her rugged life in the mountains of Wyoming and sent her tumbling into a fraught maze of cardiology units, dramatic surgeries, and slow, painful recoveries. As her life increasingly comes to revolve around the internal defibrillator freshly wired into her heart, she becomes consumed with questions about the supply chain that allows such an ostensibly miraculous device to exist.

Immature whining
Revisado: 03-25-21
Chooses to have a job near Jackson Hole, WY as a young adult with no health insurance. Lives her life running an outdoor business on public lands. Then cons the system in Colorado, pretending to be a resident to get coverage. Apparently financial planning for life was not important to her. Glad she’s found a way to earn a living, perhaps she could pay back Colorado for her surgery. Perhaps help support public lands in Wyoming that she loves so much. Couldn’t finish this book, way too disgusted with her.
