Historia
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

A Trudge
Revisado: 01-27-24
The narration is flat and dull. The story was just a slog through darkness. There really was no reflection or deeper understanding from the author. No levity or levels. I returned the title two hours in because it was two hours of monotonous droning with no forward action.

Historia
Akbar Manzil was once a grand estate off the coast of South Africa. Nearly a century later, it stands in ruins: an isolated boardinghouse for eclectic misfits, seeking solely to disappear into the mansion’s dark corridors. Except for Sana. Unlike the others, she is curious and questioning and finds herself irresistibly drawn to the history of the mansion: To the eerie and forgotten East Wing, home to a clutter of broken and abandoned objects—and to the door at its end, locked for decades.

A nice slow burn
Revisado: 01-27-24
Flowery and poetic writing and an engaging story. The world is beautifully built. I was worried since there was a review that mentioned racism that perhaps the story was problematic. In reality the story is set in and after apartheid in South Africa. Of course the characters mention race and prejudice. Context is key.

Full disclosure: I only made it to chapter 5
Revisado: 02-19-23
This book isn’t narrated, it’s performed. There’s a ton of ineffective background and transitional music. It’s like an audiobook of a coloring book and not in a good way. I do find it interesting that he ruined his audiobook by being nervous and overcompensating after spending so much time talking about growing out of that habit. There’s a reason there are no 16 hour movies or concerts, that’s too long to be in the direct line of fire of a person who always has to be “on.” There was no room for the listener to engage in the material and interpret it. The presentation overshadowed the words.

It’s no wonder that The Power of Now has sold over 16 million copies worldwide and has been translated into over 30 foreign languages. Much more than simple principles and platitudes, the book takes readers on an inspiring spiritual journey to find their true and deepest self and reach the ultimate in personal growth and spirituality: the discovery of truth and light. In the first chapter, Tolle introduces listeners to enlightenment and its natural enemy, the mind.

That Freakin Noise
Revisado: 06-29-22
If you have tinnitus or any type of sound sensitivities beware.
For whatever reason most paragraphs/chapters are delineated by an alarmingly loud chiming sound that lingers.
