Historia
"I believe there is another man inside every man, a stranger...." writes Wilfred Leland James in the early pages of the riveting confession that makes up "1922", the first in this pitch-black quartet of mesmerizing tales from Stephen King. For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.

Unimpressed. Poor narration.
Revisado: 02-01-24
Jessica Hecht should not be narrating books. Her reading always sounds like she’s an old lady about to tell a joke… she doesn’t have the voice range to inflect the emotion required for these stories. Can’t tell if she’s about to laugh in some sections, and it’s just WAY off putting. Overall, the stories felt weak. King mentions at the end that he likes to put ordinary people on extraordinary situations… but the characters don’t make decisions the ordinary person would. Instead, the make off the wall choices to help push the story along… which left me scratching my head.

Narrator is weak, and the story is abysmal
Revisado: 11-13-23
King has steadily gone more and more to the left in his writings as he has aged. I get it, he has his opinion, and it influences his thoughts. I personally get enough of that garbage in the news already. In his twilight years, it seems like he’s no longer making books for his fans, but just to express himself. As a reader/listener, the story could really do without his repeated mantra on vaccines, politics, and racism. It takes away from the actual story, which honestly was pretty weak once you remove all the recent political ramblings he shoe horned into the story. Again, I’ve heard all the vaccine debates, and political garbage for the past few years now… King really doesn’t need to put it in his writings. It taints his legacy. Now, as far as the audio goes, I didn’t care for the narrator either. I listened to all the Mercedes books, and honestly was hoping for a narrator with some vocal range while reading this book, like I got with the Mercedes books. This narrator just doesn’t have it, and it was irritating trying to figure out who she was voicing in the story. Holly, sounded like Barbara, who sounded like Penny, who sounded like the other female characters. Holly was voiced by someone who didn’t understand her many ticks and issues, so the character came off boring and not as interesting as in other books. Just my two cents, but I wish I had saved this audible credit for something else.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Anne Rice's richly told novel weaves an irresistible story of two worlds: the witches' world and the vampires' world, where magical powers and otherworldly fascinations are locked together in a dance of seduction, death, and rebirth.

Revisado: 11-27-22
The person reading is SO hard to hear, and his voice is SO freakin boring. I love the series, but I have to skip this one. It’s awful. Kind of irritated that I wasted a credit on this garbage.

Not really an audio book.
Revisado: 11-27-22
Just a warning, this isn’t really an audio book. It’s an old time radio actor style “movie”. No one is telling a story… it’s just listening to dialogue and sounds effects. Not my cup of tea… but it was ok for an audible freebie.

Only worth is for DT fans
Revisado: 02-19-21
As others said, this book is only worth it if you’re a Dark Tower fan. The first half is a great little story about Roland. The second half by Robert Silverberg is absolute garbage... uninteresting story, poor writing, and just an overall waste of time. If you buy this, do yourself a favor and tell audible you finished the book after the first half.
