Couldn’t put it down!

This sequel to “Gift of the Shaper” starts off running & hooked me immediately with 2 new characters who soon became my favorites. “Awaken” could be read as a stand-alone but there is much good background info in the first book. The narrator is outstanding & superb in bringing the characters to life. I also got the e-book which is a bonus since it includes maps & a glossary but that’s just additional icing on a delicious cake. The story is well written & kept me tuned in for 7 consecutive hours while I finished it. I heartily recommend this book in the spirit of Tolkien, & eagerly await the conclusion of the trilogy..

For thousands of years, the Breaker of the Dawn has been locked away in the ethereal plane of the Otherworld. Now, a young blacksmith’s apprentice finds himself trapped in a war between the noble Athrani, a subset of humanity gifted with the ability to transmute matter, and the malevolent and powerful Khyth, who seek to free the ancient god from his prison. When his father, Olson, is kidnapped, Thornton Woods and his childhood friend, Miera, must leave their small village of Highglade to find him.

Great Intro to a new fantasy world! It's a keeper.

I really got hooked on this audio! The author does a terrific job with the narration. He has a very clear, pleasant voice that makes the narration easy to understand. He maintains interest in the story by moving around in the world, expertly revealing key plot points as the story unfolds. This is a GREAT family book, along the lines of Tolkien & C.S. Lewis, with no bad language or objectionable elements. Not only is it an enjoyable book for young readesr, it also maintained the interest of this old reader who loves good fantasy. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
