Historia
In a prosperous yet gruesomely violent near future, superhero vigilantes battle thugs whose heads are full of supervillain fantasies. The peace is kept by a team of smooth, well-dressed negotiators called The Men in Fancy Suits. Meanwhile a young girl is caught in the middle and thinks the whole thing is ridiculous. Zoey, a recent college graduate with a worthless degree, makes a reluctant trip into the city after hearing that her estranged con artist father died in a mysterious yet spectacular way.

Funny and exciting
Revisado: 01-10-24
It’s fun to read a story where inheriting all the money in the world doesn’t immediately solve all the main character’s problems and instead leads to a series of events that go increasingly batshit sideways on them.

Listen at 1.5x for a good time
Revisado: 11-08-23
As others have mentioned, play this one at about 1.5x speed to get the proper Yahtzee effect.
A fun little story, told from the perspective of nigh-clueless survivors, with Yahtzee Croshaw’s classic wit and cynicism.
Not as polished as his later stuff, but worth a listen.

A breath of fresh air in a pretty toxic space
Revisado: 10-10-23
Alex really knows his stuff and seems committed to spreading value and knowledge.
Here’s the thing: most wealth comes from luck. This is a documented, if hard to accept, fact. Hearing Alex himself point out how much luck has contributed to his success, while still giving away valuable advice, is such a rare and welcome thing.

The methods contained within this book are so simple, so instantaneous, and so effective, it’s as if they work by magic. If you implement even one tactic in this book, you’ll see the change in your prospects' demeanor. And you’ll know the $100M Offers method worked when you start hearing, “What do I need to do to move forward?” before you even ask for the sale.

Lots of very clear, actionable ideas, built up a piece at a time, and even links to bonus workshops and worksheets.
Told by someone who has built success for himself, but isn’t shy about telling stories of struggle along the way. I’m very wary of “get rich quick” scams and business gurus for whom the secret sauce turns out to be “have rich parents”. This isn’t that.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading stories from this universe, with these rich, interesting characters.
The volume levels were a little off in the music vs voice tracks in the final chapter, but that was a minor issue.
Stefan Rudnicki and the other voice actors were brilliant as usual.

A classic for a reason
Revisado: 05-31-23
A wonderful book, even after all this time. As much a collection of short stories that stand on their own, connected by common threads, as it is a novel divided by chapters.
It’s always fascinating to see where science fiction authors from the mid-twentieth century guess wrong (always a LOT more smoking in the projections than the future actually entails), and it’s interesting to see the pieces and progressions Asimov got right, as AI becomes more and more entwined with our daily lives and with humanity itself.
If you’ve only seen the film “adaptation”, ignore it. Whomever made the film either didn’t read the source material, or didn’t care to make a cohesive movie from one or more of the novel’s chapters.
Scott Brick is brilliant as always.

One of the best of our time
Revisado: 06-14-20
Neil Gaiman is one of the best storytellers of our time, in my opinion.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from his narration, but it was fantastic. And it was wonderful to hear the characters brought to life, through inflection and mannerisms, in the way the author himself intended.

Revisado: 06-02-20
Given its run time of 2.5 hours, I was a bit apprehensive. Stardust is one of my favourite stories, and I wondered what they'd cut out in order to make it a sensible radio play.
But it was exceptionally well done. All the key scenes were kept in (including that ending), and the story is told in such a way that it felt whole and well paced.

Philosophical tension
Revisado: 02-11-20
Through his Culture series, Banks explores a multitude of social, cultural, moral, existential and philosophical ideas.
But I’ve never felt so directly engaged with, or struggled with, the ideas presented in the series as I was with Surface Detail.
Without spoilers, I will say I thoroughly enjoyed the ideological and ethical tension, and very much appreciate the craft that went into creating that tension in the reader.
Iain M Banks was, and remains, a legend in the sci-fi game.

Engrossing. Now I want a prequel!
Revisado: 01-10-20
A really tight little sci-fi short story/novella. There's a tension and urgency from beginning to end, consistency and real-world ties to the science components, and compelling characters, especially the lead.
The reader gets a clear sense of the rest of the story that takes place leading up to the events of the book, and the story ends with the possibility for more. I really hope the author writes a prequel. I would love to follow the story of the main character as she learns about exactly what's happened to her after her encounters with (spoilers haha).
The one thing that pulled me out of the story was leaning away from curse words. Hunter seems to have intentionally chosen PG-13 curse words (despite hinting that bluer language is used at times).
But overall, loved it. I'll be seeking out more from this author.
