Historia
"Life changes fast....You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends." These were among the first words Joan Didion wrote in January 2004. Her daughter was lying unconscious in an intensive care unit, a victim of pneumonia and septic shock. Her husband, John Gregory Dunne, was dead. The night before New Year's Eve, while they were sitting down to dinner, he suffered a massive and fatal coronary. The two had lived and worked side by side for nearly 40 years.

No! Don't end!
Revisado: 06-16-24
When I first began listening to this, my initial thought was,'Oh, geese. this book is simply going to be the rambling of a widow. I don't know if I'm going to listen to.all of this...'. Well, it was basically, the rambling of her thoughts just before, and for the test of the year, of the passing of her husband of 40 years. But, it wasn't a constant commentary of an uneducated woman. Which is what I think contributed to compelling to me to continue listening to the very end. She gives the reader a private and personal recount of her, basically, trying to accept her husband really being gone. Their lives were intertwined.for so many years. Almost every move she made reminded her of him. So, after he was medically gone, she couldn't accept it in her heart. In this book, she recounts her mental and emotional handling of this sudden, drastic change in her life, & the way in which she viewed life, It is a slow and gradual process. But at the same time, somehow intriguing.to listen to how her thoughts unfolded. At the end of every chapter I found myself hoping there was more. And when I found out that there was, I was pleasantly surprised. When the conclusion of this book really did come, I was bummed. It left so many questions for me: How did she continue her life? How much longer did she hang on? Did she ever remarry? Did he ever visit her in a dream?...
And here, I wasn't even going to finish listening to this book! Lol! I'm glad I changed my mind ;)

I wish that I hadn't have wasted my credit on this. It.is.so.boring. By the middle of Chapter2, I found myself fast fowarding to find something not so dry. I did not succeed. I started Chapter 3 thinking that things would improve as the book progressed. I was wrong.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Genuine & personal

This book was fantastic! I love that Jeannette herself read it! Yes, she does not sound as emotional as you think someone should while reading the autobiography of the crappy things that they had been subsljected to for most of their life. But, that's just her. I had watched a lot of iCarley back in the day. She is emotionally dry. That's just her personality. She probably unknowingly learned this skill when growing up in the environment that she did-being emotionally 'steady' so as to not crush any further the glass that she had to adapt to walk on through out her child hood around her mom so as to not cause her to go off on one of her tangents. I, too, have dealt with narcissistic abuse. It's confusing to be in the midst of a relationship with a narc. They are always right. You're living in their world where you must follow their rules. They can act lovingly at times-but is that bc they really love you or are they trying to manipulate you? When with one for several years, you do lose a sense of your personal identity bc they groom you into the person that they want you to be. You love them, so you go along w what they want so as to make them happy & not rock the boat. But once a relationship w a narc is completely over, your left with yourself and you end up asking yourself,'Wth has happened to 'ME' and who am I in the first place?!' Throwing addictions and bad habits into the mix is like icing on the cake.None of it is easy to deal with. Many never over come it. They stay w a narc bc they are brainwashed to believe that they cannot survive without them. I'm proud of Jeanette. She has overcome a lot of very hard obstacles. And she wasn't ashamed to get help to do so. That's important! I hope her future turns out brighter than her past & that her heart heals so that she can enjoy life experiencing it as her true self-not someone trying to be something that they aren't to make someone else happy. Yes, read/listen to this book. It's very candid and honest. I'm glad that I tripped upon it here on Audible. Definitely worth your time :)

Historia
There are many things that seem normal or average today that at one point in time seemed absolutely crazy. Smartphones, Wi-Fi, and even the electric light bulb were all groundbreaking, history-making inventions that started out as crazy ideas. Our see-it-to-believe-it generation tends to have a hard time exercising true faith - one that steps out, takes action, and sees mountain-moving results. Many of us would rather play it safe and stand on the sidelines, but it’s crazy faith that helps us see God move and reveals His promises.

Ignite your faith!
Revisado: 11-14-22
I'm not even fully through this audible yet. But, it's so very good that I had to write a raving review about it. First off, the narrator is superb! He has a friendly voice, & doesn't speak too fast or too slow. Mr. Michael Todd did a fantastic job writing this book! He addresses topics in a way that anybody can relate to. He doesn't dumb it down. At the same time, he exudes the voice of a friend, not a teacher or a judgmental person. He gives explanations and examples to back up what he says. I've been a follower of Jesus for almost 43 years. I thought that. by this point, I KNOW what faith is. Nope. Mr. Todd made me realize that I still have a lot to learn, experience and put into action when it comes to faith. I highly reccomend this listen/book to everyone!
