Balm for the soul. I am so glad I rediscovered Kathryn Tucker Windham. She deserves to be read and heard.

As someone who grew up in the South, Kathryn's stories are like a guided meditation. I can listen over and over and over again and pick up on something new every time. Women like Aunt Bette exist in practically every family, and we are lucky to have them. Their stories deserve to be told and Kathryn is a storyteller I'll never get tired of hearing.

The story is one dimensional. The narrator's voice is grating. The protagonist is whiny and uninteresting. avoid this title and don't waste your credits on this one.

Slow start. Gets good when it gets to all the ridiculous screw ups ATF and then FBI blundered into. Did not love the narration.

Keefe's writing is like a speeding locomotive

This book starts off fast and never slows down. It begins with one of the later generation Sacklers reluctantly confirming basic facts and being argumentative with every question in a legal deposition. It sets the tone perfectly. Empire of Pain is part biography, part contemporary nonfiction. It is deeply reported. Keefe lines up damning facts and keeps them rolling one after the other like a freight train. I only wish I could write with such clarity, such directness, such power.

Listened to McCaughey's Greenlights and since I enjoyed the I thought, "What the hell?" and took a flyer on this Will Smith book. One of the greatest mistakes of my life. It really sucks and it's a shame I can't return it. My appreciation of Will Smith dropped about 45 notches in the couple of chapters I made it through. CORRECTION: I only made it through 12 minutes of chapter 1! This book is so superficial it makes you physically cringe. For your own sake, don't do it. Please!
