A little "meh" but unexpected twist at the end
Revisado: 12-09-19
I thought about not finishing a couple of times throughout the book, I found the wife very selfish and needy at times but the ending saved the book for sure!

Historia
On 7th November 1843, Harriet Monckton, 23 years old and a woman of respectable parentage and religious habits, is found murdered in the privy behind the chapel she regularly attended in Bromley, Kent. The community is appalled by her death, apparently as a result of swallowing a fatal dose of prussic acid, and even more so when the surgeon reports that Harriet was around six months pregnant. Drawing on the coroner’s reports and witness testimonies, Elizabeth Haynes builds a compelling picture of Harriet’s final hours through the eyes of those closest to her and the last people to see her alive.

A bit long and slow in the middle but entertaining
Revisado: 11-15-19
The middle part of the book (2nd inquest) was a bit boring and weary but most the book was fun to listen to...although "proper" women in those probably did go out walking alone with a chaperone...and most likely were a bit more guarded than the women in the book. All in all though, it was a good book!

TERRIBLE narration but decent story.
Revisado: 10-28-19
The narration was horrible!! It was so slow and recorded poorly. The voices were very annoying and grating on my ears. I'm only 6 hours into a 20 hour-something story but I doubt I will be able finish, it's very frustrating.
The story is good enough, the first Charles Dickens books I've ever listen to with Audible, but I regret buying this book (even if it was less than a dollar).

Loved the story and the history!
Revisado: 10-22-19
This was the first female narrator I've ever listen to and Linda Stevens was amazing!
Unfortunately the booked skipped so badly that it was very distracting and frustrating to listen to sometimes. I don't know if it was my phone or what but it was very annoying and disappointing.

Poor volume management.
Revisado: 10-07-19
I found it difficult to keep the volume at the right level. It was quite frustrating because the background noise was often louder than the voices.
