After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to embrace a practice he'd long considered ridiculous. I could only listen to this book when I wasn’t on the metro because it was so funny, I’d start laughing hysterically and people would stare. If you’ve ever tried meditation and were turned off by the sing song voices and wind chimes from “regular” meditations, but your therapist keeps telling that meditation will help, this is the book for you. While full of insightful ways to calm your soul, what it’s really good at is saying all the things normal people are thinking about meditation. Then…it addresses the skepticisms in an honest and funny way. This book was delightful and made me consider meditation again. I tried the app for two weeks and now the sleep meditation is my go to sleeping pill.

I loved learning about the Iranian culture while feeling many of the same familiar pulls in the main character. At one point, I found myself crying in the bathroom at work because I was so relieved. Listening to books while I design landscapes has consequences. LOL! This book was excellent.

Wanted to love it...but didn't

The performance was well done, but you can't fix that with a broken storyline. It was so forced and by the end of the book, I disliked the main character so much (how entitled can you possibly be?) that it was hard to finish. I understand suspending reality in order to enjoy a good read, but this book asked me to suspend judgment for characters that deserved it. The ending was a complete disappointment.
