Historia
Part deep dive reportage, part personal journey, part cabinet of curiosities, Butts is an entertaining, illuminating, and thoughtful examination of why certain silhouettes come in and out of fashion—and how larger ideas about race, control, liberation, and power affect our most private feelings about ourselves and others.

A fascinating history of race femininity and sexuality that doesn’t lose its sense of humor.
Revisado: 03-10-24
The book is great going from the evolutionary purpose and understanding of butts through cultural representations of butts big and small. Personally I think the author is a little harsh on some individual celebrities, but she does reference and cite her arguments so I can’t fault her for misrepresenting.
The book is very clear that this is one woman’s journey to understand something deeply personal to her, butt(see what I did there) that makes it no less rigorous in its academic pursuit.

Historia
The year is 1970. Emma Gable, a blind teenager coming of age in a small industrial town in Western New York, is about as far from the seismic cultural transformations rocking campuses and city streets across America as a person can get. Emma escapes the chaos of her dysfunctional family by dialing up random numbers on the phone in her bedroom, just to see who'll answer.

Historia
Things have never been easy for Oscar, a sweet but disastrously overweight, lovesick Dominican ghetto nerd. From his home in New Jersey, where he lives with his old-world mother and rebellious sister, Oscar dreams of becoming the Dominican J. R. R. Tolkien and, most of all, of finding love. But he may never get what he wants, thanks to the Fuku: the curse that has haunted Oscar's family for generations, dooming them to prison, torture, tragic accidents, and, above all, ill-starred love. Oscar, still waiting for his first kiss, is just its most recent victim.

Amazing story Even better performance
Revisado: 06-13-17
What about Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo ’s performance did you like?
EVERYTHING, they are fantastic. Lin Manuel effortlessly moves through several different characters at various levels of bilinguality.
Karen Olivo gives depth and empathy to a character who could easily be dismissed as a stereotype.
Who was the most memorable character of The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and why?
Junior. You meet him in the first sentence, but you're not introduced until a ways into the book. His story is only tangential to the one he tells, but it's a wonderful second level of story, only giving you a glimpse into being what Oscar Wao wanted so desperately to have been.

Brilliant Gamer Novel
Revisado: 05-10-17
I loved this book! More than the meta culture and references that its famous for, it really captures a smart and concise gaming mentality. something that I think tends to lag behind in most popular culture.
