Historia
The 26th century. Once considered clandestine, the Spartan-II program has now gone public. Tales of armored supersoldiers fending off thousands of Covenant attacks have become the stuff of legend. While the Master Chief defends a besieged Earth and the myriad factions of the Covenant continue their crusade to eliminate humanity, an ultra-secret cell of the Office of Naval Intelligence known as “Section Three” devises a plan to buy the UNSC vital time. It will need hundreds of willing soldiers, though - and one more Spartan - to get the job done.

My favorite in the series
Revisado: 02-22-23
Ghosts of Onyx is my favorite of the nearly 30 books in the Halo canon and Jonathan Davis, the narrator does a great job. I remember listening to this for the first time when I was a freshman in high school, nearly 15 years ago. This book It’s and forever will be an important part of my formative years.

A great way to learn about the classics
Revisado: 01-13-23
Natalie Haynes is funny and smart and she has accomplished a great thing: making the classics fun again. She and her guests seem like they’re having fun as they teach and joke about these amazing figures from the past that have affected our lives in ways we can’t even imagine. Bravo.

Historia
A man seeks to prove himself as a hero. A monster seeks silence in his territory. A warrior seeks to avenge her murdered son. A dragon ends it all. The familiar elements of the epic poem are seen with a novelist’s eye toward gender, genre, and history - Beowulf has always been a tale of entitlement and encroachment, powerful men seeking to become more powerful, and one woman seeking justice for her child, but this version brings new context to an old story.

Great narrator, frustrating translation
Revisado: 12-31-20
The narrator does a great job reading legendary story. His voice and tone brings the gravitas such a story deserves.
The word choice and the author’s thoughts however are frustrating. Her introduction is at least 30 minutes and rubbed me the wrong way. The modern slang used, especially her use of the word “bro” is jarring and distracting to the story.

Historia
Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen - the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria - took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

Something special for history and fantasy fans
Revisado: 12-11-18
It’s a well written and exciting history book, though it covers less time than I anticipated. The detail is amazing and the writing is exciting, but it does leave me wondering: when is George RR Martin going to finish the next volume? I’m certainly looking forward to it.
