This book is a compendium of mostly brief segments which--taken in sum--are more confessional than revelatory. I stopped listening at the 24th segment when I could no longer bear listening to the writer being interesting to herself.

Histrionic performance

I burned through the Slough House series and so wanted to like this, but found the characters and plot much less compelling. The reader's hyper-expressive style was also very intrusive and annoying. I couldnt get past the 4thchapter.

Terrible performance

Worst narrator. Used cars salesman voice, so many wrong pronunciations! I couldnt finish listening to this. Sorry I bought it. The story isnt exactly particularly scintillating either.

An invaluable resource for dahlia growers

This is by far the clearest, most comprehensive guide for growing dahlias that I have found. It is illuminated through and through by the author's deep knowledge of every aspect of her subject, and I know I will return to it again and again. Especially helpful are the links to the author's U Tube videos demonstrating specific aspects of dahlia growing.

Lighting the way

As the primary caregiver of my mother and father during their prolonged illnesses and, as I grow older, my own attempts to wrest “care” from our insurance “trolls” and broken healthcare system, every word in Dr. Snyder’s book rang with a strong and personal resonance. I have followed Dr. Snyder’s work on Ukraine and on the rise of authoritarianism in America ever since a friend sent me a copy of “On Tyranny,” and I am so grateful in these dark days for the light of truth I have found there.

A book to hold close…

…and return to often. You do not have to be a gardener to benefit from this book, but it deepened my understanding of why I garden, of how it opens up a universe in the tiny 12 ‘x 15’ plot outside my back door.

A Most Remarkable Book

…about an utterly remarkable creature, the striated Caracara. But this is also about so much more. It is a personal account, a journey story, a factual and cultural and social and ornithological history, an account of the life and work of William Henry Hudson. Beautifully written and performed, I was enthralled by the reading and will go back to listen again and again.

Horrible horrible music!

Hollywoodish movie music is distracting, destroys the effect of the reading.

This book surprised me. I did not expect to be moved as deeply as I was by it, to find so much to learn and think about. The narrative is clear,unprepossessing, memorable. I will return again and again to the fire monks.
