Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Hell House is one of my all-time favorites, and I was fortunate enough to know (and be mentored by Richard Matheson) when I was a kid in the early 1970s. How wonderful is it, then to have the actor who reads my Joe Ledger thrillers, Ray Porter, do this book --and knock it out of the park. It's a win from every possible direction.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hell House?

The scenes with Fisher were done just right, with a subtle underplay early on as the psychic stays closed off, and then building in intensity as Fisher goes to war against Belasco.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

I've listened to ray do dozens of audiobooks, including many of my own. It's remarkable how he submerges into the characters so much that you almost forget it's him. It allows the writing to shine throw. That's the mark of a superior voice actor.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I wanted this book to last and last.

What did you love best about The Old Gods Waken?

Stefan Rudnicki brings Wellman's wonderful Silver John to vibrant life with this new performance. Please...PLEASE tell me Stefan will be recording the rest of the John the Balladeer stories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Old Gods Waken?

First time I'd heard these stories on audio, and Stefan infuses each character with individuality and authenticity.

Which scene was your favorite?

When we first meet John I cheered because I've been a fan of these stories since I was a kid and it was a delight to 'meet' Silver John in this way.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I sat on the beach with headphones...watching the waves and the whales and listened to the whole thing on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Any additional comments?

Please record the rest of the Silver John stories. Now.

Would you consider the audio edition of Banker to be better than the print version?

Certain authors' works seem to come alive more on audio than in print. Dick Francis is one of those. He had a very lean prose style, and that works best in audio because it comes off as 'someone telling you an interesting story' as opposed to books by authors with a more ornate style where it's the construction of words on the page that has the magic. These books are tales told by friends. You can settle in and listen and in doing so hear the thunder of hooves, the cries of the jockeys and the roar of the crowd.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The villain of the piece has a somewhat timeless quality. Even though this novel was written a couple of decades ago, guys like him are everywhere nowadays.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?

Simon Prebble is perfect for the works of Dick Francis. It was his performance on an earlier edition of BLOOD SPORT that hooked me on both audiobooks and on Dick Francis. Through his narration the individuality and humanity of the characters is evident.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Although I didn't come to tears, the death of one character was deeply moving; and the reading of those scenes was handled in a way that brought the horrors of loss to stinging clarity.

Any additional comments?

I've become hooked on the Simon Prebble versions of Dick Francis...but as a result I also bought his version of A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

What made the experience of listening to Night Vision the most enjoyable?

This book is typical of the Doc Ford series --it starts off being one thing and then evolves into something else, taking devious twists and turns along the way. And despite the shocking violence there is real heart here, too.

What other book might you compare Night Vision to and why?

This book will appeal to the fans of John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee series

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

George Guidall is the undisputed king of narrators. His performance is layered, complex, and crystal clear.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Robert Petkoff has really captured the balance of idealistic optimism and jaded cynicism that defined Travis McGee.

What made the experience of listening to Assassin's Code the most enjoyable?

Ray Porter has been reading this series since the beginning and he absolutely nails it. Every line, every character.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Assassin's Code?

Ray's interpretation of Grigor really makes that character scary as hell

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Ray is always terrific, but I think he somehow manages to get better every time.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Ray narrates the scene where Joe and Jamsheed are discussing the photos and discussing children in war.

Where does Pale Gray for Guilt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best books in my all-time favorite series of mysteries.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Meyer is always a favorite of mine.

What does Robert Petkoff bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Petkoff brings great skill as a reader but also an actor's insight into individual character. He does a superb job of bringing this cast of characters to life.

Any additional comments?

Thanks to audible for presenting the entire Travis McGee series in excellent audio productions --and for getting the whole series done and made available so quickly! Bravo!
