Historia
No outsiders are ever admitted to the monastery of Saint-Gilbert-Entre-les-Loups, hidden deep in the wilderness of Quebec, where two dozen cloistered monks live in peace and prayer. They grow vegetables, they tend chickens, they make chocolate. And they sing. Ironically, for a community that has taken a vow of silence, the monks have become world-famous for their glorious voices, raised in ancient chants whose effect on both singer and listener is so profound it is known as “the beautiful mystery.”

Rocks your world
Revisado: 08-17-13
Louise Penny's intelligent and well-crafted mysteries are always thought-provoking and enjoyable, but this one reaches far down into the psyche and creates a building of dread and suspense that is far and above the previous installments.

Fantastic series!
Revisado: 07-14-12
It's cliche to say that you "can't put a story down, but in the case of this series, it's absolutely true. I had never tried any McCammon before I bought "The Nightbird" but I will most likely read everything available by him from now on. I love historical mystery from all settings, but this series is special. We get to see the fallible hero grow and change, make mistakes and do amazing things. Somehow McCammon has filled the tale with non-stop action but not made it seem unbelievable. I highly recommend this series to anyone, historical fans or not!

Amazing book from an amazing writer!
Revisado: 07-14-12
I chose this book because I love Robert McCammon's early American series. Historical mysteries are my main interest, but he is such a good author that I took a chance on this story - and I am sure glad I did! This story is amazing. It takes a little while to get into the flow, but if you read McCammon, you'd best prick up your ears from the very first word, becuaue every sentence and scene is there for a reason.

A good idea, but...
Revisado: 04-23-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
This is the classic case of a good story idea that did not pan out. The problems are all left unresolved. Instead of ending, this story just stopped dead in its tracks.
Would you ever listen to anything by A. J. Kazinski again?
Not likely
What didn’t you like about Simon Vance’s performance?
I like Simon Vance; he is always good.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Last Good Man?
There is no point to having anything about the protagonist's wife in the book at all; she is just used to look up one of the murder sites and none of the marriage issues or travel issues is resolved at all.
