Historia
In the best-selling tradition of Bill Bryson and Tony Horwitz, Rinker Buck's The Oregon Trail is a major work of participatory history: an epic account of traveling the entire 2,000-mile length of the Oregon Trail the old-fashioned way, in a covered wagon with a team of mules - which hasn't been done in a century - that also tells the rich history of the trail, the people who made the migration, and its significance to the country.

A little too self centered
Revisado: 01-14-25
The story of this journey, the history of the trail, and the author's retelling of his family history were all great. His political rants, derision of others, and his long reflections upon his mental health, less so. It's a good story, well written, and well read; but it's just a bit too self centered for my taste.

Historia
Stefan Zweig's memoir, The World of Yesterday, recalls the golden age of prewar Europe - its seeming permanence, its promise and its devastating fall with the onset of two world wars. Zweig's passionate, evocative prose paints a stunning portrait of an era that danced brilliantly on the brink of extinction. It is an unusually humane account of Europe from the closing years of the 19th century through to World War II, seen through the eyes of one of the most famous writers of his era.

One Last Look Back
Revisado: 10-20-24
An excellent look back at a time before and between the, "World Wars" . Well read, sounds very good at 2X playback.

Historia
In addition to being among the most celebrated of contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is possibly the most joyously infectious movie lover alive. For years he has touted in interviews his eventual turn to writing books about films. Now, with Cinema Speculation, the time has come, and the results are everything his passionate fans—and all movie lovers—could have hoped for. Organized around key American films from the 1970s, all of which he first saw as a young moviegoer at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is rollicking and entertaining.

Fun
Revisado: 04-21-23
Movies with America's best known movie buff! It's excellent from start to finish and my only wish is that Quentin had read the entire book himself. Not that the narrator wasn't good, it's that he's not Quentin reading what is so obviously Quentin's words.

Excellent

A great book with a good narration. Having already read Theodore Roosevelt's personal account of the journey, entitled, "Through the Brazilian Wilderness"; I found this broader look at the expedition to be fascinating.

Historia
This classic war memoir, first published in 1920, is based on the author's extensive diaries describing hard combat experienced on the Western Front during World War I. It has been greatly admired by people as diverse as Bertolt Brecht and Andre Gide, and from every part of the political spectrum. Hypnotic, thrilling, and magnificent, The Storm of Steel is perhaps the most fascinating description of modern warfare ever written.

An incredibly interesting book, that is very well read in this audible edition. However I really hated the sound effects that were added, and I honestly have no idea why anyone would think that they added to the experience of the story. Otherwise this was an excellent listen.
