a fun romp
Revisado: 02-06-18
a fun story reminiscent of the Bloody Jack series but with magic and a little more silliness. another reason for the similarity is the reader Katherine kellgren who has always been amazing with voices and characters I recently heard that she has passed away and she'll be greatly missed, go out and find more books read by her, you will not be disappointed.

Historia
All it takes is a single brush with the supernatural to change a life forever. Some choose the path of magic and shadow willingly. Others never see the hand of magic as it shapes their fortunes. They face the extraordinary with nothing but courage and wits to guide them. Some mortals become trapped in the conflict between angels and demons and find themselves forever changed. For all too many, the shadows lead only to untimely ends.

great story with a few split ends
Revisado: 11-21-17
I love the humor, mythology, and mild erotica in Elliott Kay stories. this story has a few storylines that just didn't resolve themselves in any satisfying way, so I'm taking one star off because I have to wait for the sequel to satisfy my curiosity.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

good story with reservations.
Revisado: 12-05-11
while I did enjoy reading about the evolution of the witch and what drove her to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and of course her end was a foregone conclusion, I can't help but feel that this was a shaggy dog story with no resolution from the reader's point of view. I kept hoping for a payoff after the rich development of the characters in new and interesting ways. but in the end it was just an abrupt end with no real payoff, I gave it 4 stars because the story was so well thought out and read, but it lost the final star due to the ending. perhaps it will take reading the other three books to bring things into focus but I find myself with very little interested in pursuing more.

A lackluster bodice buster
Revisado: 10-21-11
First off my point of view is that I love supernatural adventures so thought I would give this "Vampire" Novelist a try. What I got unfortunately was a rather tepid Romance with so little supernatural or adventure that I found myself bored to tears in very little time. I'm not trying to put down romances, in balanced doses romance can engage you in the characters, but this is all romance and very little of anything else. If that's your thing fine, you might like this. but I found very little emotional connection to either of the characters, can't even really say that I thought the romance was at all that sexy which I would assume is the intent of romances.

A great story that didn't quite pan out.
Revisado: 06-26-10
OK basically I liked this book, there were elements that were heartwarming, thrilling, heartbreaking, horrible, sad, exciting, basically all the things that make for a great novel. It was certainly one that I couldn't wait to read what happened next despite a pace that is right out of a Steven King Novel, somewhat methodical and plodding. Unfortunately though I was left rather dissatisfied when I finished listening, while I now know this is just supposed to be the first part of a trilogy, I think even a cliffhanger can leave some sort of conclusion which can satisfy, but I was left feeling like I spent 37 hours putting together a puzzle only to find that a few pieces are missing.

I can't stop listening!!
Revisado: 04-17-10
I had ignored this series despite my love of Historical and particularly Nautical Fiction (I count Dewey Lambdin and Dan Parkinson two of my favorite authors) due to the fact that it was considered a young adult title. Boy was I wrong for ignoring it. this series grabs you by the ears and makes you want to continue listening to the adventures of this plucky waif who makes the most of any situation. This is one series where I literally could not stop listening. A lot has been said about Katherine Kellgren's reading on this series and she deserves every bit of praise she has received, she breathed life into all of the characters until you couldn't help but feel you were listening directly to their voices and feeling their emotions. This is one series that I will not be deleting off my computer, as I know I will want to listen to it again someday.

I loved this series as a teenager, so when I saw it at audible I decided to listen for old times sake. Unfortunately the reader was doing just that Reading, there was no inflection in his voice. Bland, Bland, Bland. This could have been an amazing read, but instead fell flat. I would love to hear this story read by someone who can really bring it to life.
