Historia
Jill and Derick knew a normal life wasn’t possible for them. As a star on the popular TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting, Jill grew up in front of viewers who were fascinated by her family’s way of life. She was the responsible, second daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle’s nineteen kids; always with a baby on her hip and happy to wear the modest ankle-length dresses with throat-high necklines.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

This book is very well-written and never lags. I would recommend it particularly for book clubs because the book begs to be picked apart and discussed.
And the narrator, oh my, she is one of the best I've heard, right up there with John Lee, Paul Michael and Davina Porter.

Would you listen to Exodus again? Why?
Yes. One of the best I've listened to.
Have you listened to any of Paul Michael’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have listened to Paul Michael before. Is there an accent he can't do? Right up there with the great John Lee and Davina Porter.

Historia
A fascinating and intimate novel of the life of Mary Todd Lincoln, narrated by the First Lady herself. Mary Todd Lincoln is one of history's most misunderstood and enigmatic women. She was a political strategist, a supporter of emancipation, and a mother who survived the loss of three children and the assassination of her beloved husband. She also ran her family into debt, held séances in the White House, and was committed to an insane asylum - which is where Janis Cooke Newman's debut novel begins.

Historia
Thomas Jefferson had three daughters: Martha and Maria by his wife, Martha Wayles Jefferson, and Harriet by his slave Sally Hemings. Although the three women shared a father, the similarities end there. Martha and Maria received a fine convent school education while they lived with their father during his diplomatic posting in Paris. Once they returned home, however, the sisters found their options limited by the laws and customs of early America. Harriet Hemings followed a different path. She escaped slavery — apparently with the assistance of Jefferson himself.

Revisado: 02-17-18
I found the book tedious and boring. I love reading History but this author kept injecting her own political agenda. It was more subtle at first but toward the end all pretense of simply reporting was abandoned.
The narrator reminded me of a disapproving teacher. At the end of the book her contempt was palatable.

Not up to Follet's standards
Revisado: 02-17-18
What disappointed you about A Column of Fire?
The only thing good about this book was the narration by the fabulous John Lee. This book was tedious and simply a rehash of the Pillars of the Earth series.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ken Follett again?
Definitely. I tend to love Follet.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Yes. John Lee.
