Historia
The Second World War lasted for 2,174 days, cost $1.5 trillion, and claimed the lives of more than 50 million people. Why did the Axis lose? And could they, with a different strategy, have won? Andrew Roberts's acclaimed new history has been hailed as the finest single-volume account of this epic conflict. From the western front to North Africa, from the Baltic to the Far East, he tells the story of the war - the grand strategy and the individual experience, the cruelty and the heroism - as never before.

long and too many statistics
Revisado: 12-08-21
I learned a little from this but the statistics numb the brain. some good insights which I would have rather heard more of. I think that the author feel into the trap of just bleating out number after number

Historia
The memoirs of Civil War generals are some of our most common sources that we look at when learning about this tumultuous conflict. But what about the voices of the common soldier? Frank Wilkeson aimed to rectify this and reassert the importance of looking at the accounts of the men who carried the muskets, served the guns, and rode into the heat of battle. Recollections of a Private Soldier in the Army of the Potomac is a wonderfully refreshing account of the American Civil War that takes listeners to the heart of what it would have been like to have served in the front ranks.

An awesome inside view of a Civil War Soldier
Revisado: 06-22-21
I do not leave many reviews, This being said I had to leave this one. This is a relatively short book but is absolutely fascinating. The author is a soldier in the Civil War, a private but it is clear that he has a good education but he does not get caught up in that. He tells a side of the Civil War from a regular soldiers standpoint that I have never read before in all of the books on the subject that I have read. For example he goes into great details about the two-tiered army, one part volunteers that could be counted on and the other "bounty jumpers" who were obvious and could not be counted on. He also discussed Petersburg in 1864 and how it was obvious from the common soldiers standpoint that if the Union attacked when they got there they could have taken Petersburg. Its not just a soldier bitching, he explains in detail how the common soldier could tell the quality and quantity of the men that they were facing. I highly recommend this book.

Historia
A military unit is thrust back into Paleolithic times with only their guns and portable hardware. Ten soldiers on convoy in Afghanistan suddenly find themselves lost in time. Somehow they arrived in Earth's Paleolithic Asia. With no idea how they arrived or how to get back, the shock of the event is severe. They discover groups of the similarly displaced: imperial Romans, Neolithic Europeans, and a small cadre of East Indian peasants.

Please let it end
Revisado: 11-16-15
What would have made A Long Time Until Now better?
I cannot think of a thing
Has A Long Time Until Now turned you off from other books in this genre?
My first foray into the genre and i cannot imagine them all being this bad
Would you listen to another book narrated by Dennis Holland?
No
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Perhaps a point or two for imagination and tackling a difficult topic but otherwise no
Any additional comments?
I had high hopes for this book but it was awful. In short ten US soldiers are sent back 15,000 years into the past where they meet tribesman of the current age, other a few thousand years later Romans and finally folks from the future. The American soldiers somehow are able to speak all different languages quickly Roman as well as stone age. They have among them people who can make iron, tell by the stars how many years they were transported back based upon physiology where in the world people migrated from. The American soldiers also (folks in their 20's for the most part) are able to figure out from clothing where people are from what, where and when Ice Ages and other environmental changes occurred off of the top of their heads. In addition among them are experts in cultures, hierarchies of social status among groups that are 15,000 years old and younger. There are among them a feminist, iron worker, language expert (no matter the civilization or the time) seamstress, hot tub builders, experts on leather making and slaughtering of animals. As every challenge arises one among the ten Americans just happens to have that skill no matter how obscure. They are able to look at weapons of the Romans, Indians and the stone age people and determine at a glance where in the world the owners cam from and when.
if not the worst book i have listened to it is definitely up there. I can agree that it is fantasy and with fantasy comes imagination but the imagination of the author and his ability to back fill skills into any scenario no matter how obscure just kills the book.
If you abilities are not up to the task move on to a less ambitious project.
With all due respect to the American military i doubt all of these skills reside in a division much less a ten person patrol

Historia
General George S. Patton, Jr., died under mysterious circumstances in the months following the end of World War II. For almost 70 years, there has been suspicion that his death was not an accident - and may very well have been an act of assassination. Killing Patton will take listeners inside the final year of the war and recount the events surrounding Patton's tragic demise, naming names of the many powerful individuals who wanted him silenced.

Awful, if you know anything about WW2 dont bother
Revisado: 10-30-14
Would you try another book from Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard and/or Bill O'Reilly?
A complete waste of time and I was looking forward to it. The begins begins with a loose assertion and then spends the rest of the time talking about history that everyone knows and has no bearing on the "conspiracy" I do not need to know about Stalins daughter and a Xmas party which is mentioned for 30 minutes and disappears. To me O'Reilly is filling his pockets with our money and he knows or should know that this is garbage. Its a WW2 coloring book. At the end they on about all of the characters that he bores us with throughout the book and how they died and who they slept with. This has no bearing on the PLOT at all.
Stay away.
