Historia
The elite crew of the pirate ship UNS Flying Dutchman had a simple mission: determining whether the Thuranin are sending another starship to Earth. Along the way, they became sidetracked by securing a future for the UNEF troops on the planet Paradise. When asked whether Earth was now safe, their ancient alien AI responded "Not so much"...now they have to deal with the consequences.

First two thirds needed more editing
Revisado: 03-10-25
First, let me say I loved books 1-3.5 and I will keep listening to the series, but, the first two thirds of this book are very repetitive. It feels like not a single editor or proofreader went over it to tell the author he makes the same point 3-4 times in every chapter that is about planning an op. I would recommend skipping all planning chapters and just listening when the ops are being executed.

From the clouds of Venus to the origins of the time gates, this collection of novellas and short fiction visits many favourite worlds of the Quantum Evolution universe, as well as some new to the series. With two 20,000-plus-word novellas and four long short stories, this collection is a stunning showcase of talent.

And I read a lot of hard sci-fi…
The stories improve as the collection progresses and the last one is a doozy. Amazing

Narrator problematic but you get over it
Revisado: 02-18-19
There are two problems with the narration that were not present in the first two books:
1. Even though the story takes place 300 years in the future in a thoroughly globalized society the narrator creates stereotypical ethnic accents for characters only based on their names - Admiral Trang pronounces his "L"s as "R"s for example.
2. Every single character name is pronounced differently than in the first two books and one of them is straight up wrong. The Character Al as in Al Capone gets pronounced A 1 most of the time and one time gets pronounced A.I. As in Artificial Intelligence. It’s so wrong it’s almost funny except that name gets repeated about 400 times.
Otherwise, the narrator’s voice is good. I just wished he had spent 5 minutes reviewing the characters’ names and the (non-stereotypical) voices he had already created for them when he read the first book in the series.
The story and writing is just as good as in the first two books.

Historia
Martin and his friends discovered that their world is computer generated and that by altering the code they could alter reality. They traveled back in time to Medieval England to live as wizards. Almost everything they've done since then has, in one way or another, blown up in their faces. So of course they decide to make dragons. It does not go well.

Not the same as the previous 3 books
Revisado: 11-19-18
It is strange to get to the 4th book in a series that you've enjoyed and not be able to finish it. I tried. I made it 2/3rds of the way through before giving up. There is just no overarching plot. There are just a bunch of separate dragon fights that don't seem to have any relation to each other. The dialogue is funny, the performance is good but there is no plot.

Historia
Critically acclaimed author Alastair Reynolds holds a well-deserved place “among the leaders of the hard-science space opera renaissance." ( Publishers Weekly). In Blue Remembered Earth, Geoffrey Akinya wants nothing more than to study the elephants of the Amboseli basin. But when his space-explorer grandmother dies, secrets come to light and Geoffrey is dispatched to the Moon to protect the family name - and prevent an impending catastrophe.

Great world building, Slow build
Revisado: 03-13-17
After having read The Revelation Space Series, I enjoyed Alastair Reynolds's take on more near future science fiction. Thinking about the coming changes in government, surveillance, AI, transportation etc. technologies is one of my favorite things about Sci-Fi and this book delivers that in spades. The reason it gets a 4 overall though is that the plot reveals its

4 out of 5 stories are excellent, couldn't get through 1
Revisado: 02-27-17
The anthology is worth it for 4 out of the 5 stories. The "Man Who Sold the Moon" is one of my all time favorites! However, I would recommend skipping "Each in His Prison, Thinking of the Key". I listened to an hour of it hoping it would go somewhere and it just never did. I believe it appears 3rd in order.
