Historia
On Earth, political tensions boil over between the United Americas, Union of Progressive Peoples, and Three World Empire. Conflict spreads to the outer fringes, and the UK colony of New Albion breaks with the Three World empire. This could lead to a Colony War. Trapped in the middle are journalist Cher Hunt, scientist Chad McLaren, and the synthetic Davis. Cher, seeking to discover who caused the death of her sister, Shy Hunt, uncovers a far bigger story. McLaren’s mission, fought alongside his wife, is to stop the militarization of the deadliest weapon of all—the Xenomorph.

The main character is a... Chair?
Revisado: 05-02-23
So... yeah. the author made the bizarre choice of naming the protagonist "Cher". Which I suppose only hits the "bizarre" wrong of you're a Gen-X or older. It's like naming them Madonna, you know?
So that would be strange enough, but then the narrator pronounces it like "Chair".
Chair said this, Chair does that... If there's anything that takes me out of a story it's imagining the main character is a piece of furniture meant for sitting on.
How did nobody catch that? was there no voice direction? and if there was, and if that's actually the intended pronunciation, well then that's even worse.
Besides that, the prose leaves a lot to be desired, with lots of moments I rolled my eyes and groaned, and the story is kinda bland, with plot holes you could fly the Nostromo through.
I want those hours of my life back.

Historia
Despite the stubborn courage of dwarven warriors, the protracted Wilderness War ends as a no-win. The Swordsheath Scroll is signed, and Thorbardin shows its support of the open-minded Qualinesti elves by joining in the construction of magnificent Pax Tharkas.A new leader emerges from their midst, Derkin, the King of Living Stone, whose bravery and wisdom is written in dwarven annals, and whose name becomes the "throne name" of all future dwarven kings.

okay story. not so okay narration.
Revisado: 01-14-20
This isn't the best of the trilogy, but as it is it's a good ending to it. The story is okay, nothing exciting. The narrator, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Alan O'Reilly certainly improved since the first book, but the strangely monotonous and yet broken rhythm of his reading is still there to a great degree, and I found it still took me out of the story many times. I can't help but think that I would have enjoyed the book far more with a different narrator or if I had read of myself.

Historia
The humans of Ergoth continue to encroach upon Thorbardin, but the worst threat to the dwarven fortress comes from a mysterious fog-beast and a covetous wizard. A Cobar, a kender, and a giant raptor add to the confusion as the dwarves are faced with wizards who command not only the forces of magic but thousands of mercenaries as well. And, unknown to the dwarves who valiantly fight the invaders, the beast has already claimed Thorbardin as its own.

Love the dwarven saga, but bad narration.
Revisado: 01-06-20
Good story. Terrible narrator. Allen O'Reilly has an odd way of speaking, that sounds like a bad and broken cell phone conversation. He inserts pauses mid-sentence, and doesn't pause when it's necessary. the result is a cadence that is annoying to listen to and takes you out of the story repeatedly.

great story, poor performance.
Revisado: 10-26-19
I love this book. It's one of my all time favorites. But the narrator seems to struggle constantly with the cadence of sentences, so much so that it makes it a difficult listening experience.
