I got absolutely nothing from this book. Sounded like just a woman with a monotone voice reading her idea outlines for a future book. BORING. Wish I could exchange, Audible says NO.

The renowned science writer, mathematician, and best-selling author of Fermat's Last Theorem masterfully refutes the overreaching claims of the "New Atheists," providing millions of educated believers with a clear, engaging explanation of what science really says, how there's still much space for the Divine in the universe, and why faith in both God and empirical science are not mutually exclusive.

A bit deep in spots, but worth powering through them!
Revisado: 10-25-16
As a scientist that was raised in the church, I have many, many questions about this topic. Yet, through all my studies, I could not let go of the "what if/perhaps" of God's existence, and embrace the atheism as so many of my colleagues. The book talks to this deep feeling and belief I have in a scientific manner, using the excuses of the new atheist movement to call to question their declarations, as well uses deep theoretical but scientific declarations to illuminate that question mark.
I am now more confident in my belief that I stated in my 6th grade class - that things are just too complex and too perfect to be a sheer happenstance.

Conventional wisdom dictates that our genetic destiny is fixed at conception. But Dr. Moalem's groundbreaking book shows us that the human genome is far more fluid and fascinating than your ninth grade biology teacher ever imagined. By bringing us to the bedside of his unique and complex patients, he masterfully demonstrates what rare genetic conditions can teach us all about our own health and well-being. In the brave new world we're rapidly rocketing into, genetic knowledge has become absolutely crucial. Inheritance provides an indispensable roadmap for this journey.

One of the best books on this topic!
Revisado: 05-15-16
What did you love best about Inheritance?
The detail, the depth, the truth of all things genetic - how our genes really work.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES. But actually ended up relistening to several chapters more than twice.
Any additional comments?
This is THE go-to book if you want to learn how our genes REALLY work. It is up to date and filled with great stories that illustrate the research that backs the science of how our genes work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Historia
The language of genes has become common parlance. We know they make your eyes blue, your hair curly or your nose straight. The media tells us that our genes control the risk of cancer, heart disease, alcoholism or Alzheimer's. The cost of DNA sequencing has plummeted from billions of pounds to a few hundred, and gene-based advances in medicine hold huge promise. So we've all heard of genes, but how do they actually work?

A non-scientists misguided interpretation
Revisado: 05-15-16
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who want outdated information, who don't mind the unnecessary use of 5-dollar words to explain what many other truly intelligent authors have given us. She revels in her trips to talk to to famous researchers, her descriptive passages are cloyingly engulfed with the cocky pride of her accomplishments. Pass the barf bag.
Did Kat Arney do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
No characters - it's NONFICTION
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger. Disappointment. Disgust. I literally batted my iPhone across the room in disgust (I have a great case - no worries). Total waste of money.
Any additional comments?
The author needs to know that her works is outdated and provides much incorrect information. I literally had JUST finished another book about genes written by an actual doctor in the midst of genetic research. Thought this book would be a great followup to that. I was wrong.

It has commercials in between chapters - ICK
Revisado: 04-27-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, if they are Christian. I love the author and his style. I listen to his podcasts regularly. he makes Christianity, well, not so "offensive" as I remember it from childhood. He makes it OK and understandable. Now, if I could just get past my doubts I have about the translation of the Bible.
And, if they would remove the commercials in between the chapters read by the lady with the sickening voice, it would be far better!
Would you be willing to try another book from Rick Warren? Why or why not?
Yes. I like his style. He is down to earth and humorous.
What does Rick Warren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His delivery is pretty darn awesome. He sounds like the kind of guy you's want to have a beer with - to be your neighbor - to be your friend.
Could you see The Purpose Driven Life being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No - it is not a story.
Any additional comments?
LOSE THE DARN COMMERCIALS IN BETWEEN THE CHAPTERS! The sappy voice of the lady that reads these makes me want to vomit.

Historia
In this irreverent and illuminating audiobook, acclaimed writer and scientist Leonard Mlodinow shows us how randomness, chance, and probability reveal a tremendous amount about our daily lives, and how we misunderstand the significance of everything from a casual conversation to a major financial setback. As a result, successes and failures in life are often attributed to clear and obvious causes, when in actuality they are more profoundly influenced by chance.

Interesting in parts...but mostly B-O-R-I-N-G
Revisado: 04-18-14
What disappointed you about The Drunkard's Walk?
It was WAY too technical. The facts were great - and that was why I ordered the book (based on someone's review)...but, geeeeez, the guy yammers on and on and on and on about math dreck for 30 minutes at a shot. It is as if his publisher wanted him to just fill pages with anything to make the book longer.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Not sure what this means - next book? Not sure...
Which character – as performed by Sean Pratt – was your favorite?
There was no characters in this book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
Some of the facts were cool.
Any additional comments?
Don't use your credits to get this book. It sounds much more fun than it actually is. I was soooo bored with it...

The Sociopath Next Door

Historia
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

You KNOW these people! Read and find out!
Revisado: 02-19-14
Would you listen to The Sociopath Next Door again? Why?
Yes. And again and again. And again.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sociopath Next Door?
When she (the author) described the typical sociopath and listed who these poele could be, and described the head of our Condo Trustee Board 100% - and then said, this person could be the head of your condo Trustee Board. YIKES!!
Have you listened to any of Shelly Frasier’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Never heard any others...
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No - it is too heavy of a topic. And it hits WAY too close to home for me. I was married to a diagnosed sociopath, my father was one, and the head of condo association is one. That man had single-handedly ruined the lives of SO MANY people in our condo complex...yet people think he is so "charming." That is the key word used to describe most sociopaths...or so I learned in this book. They are more deceptive than you think. And, 1 in 25 people fall into this category...yikes.
Any additional comments?
A MUST read for every adult. I can't emphasize this enough.
If more people read this book, they would know what to look for and question the actions of people that seem just a bit "off." If more people did this - so many other people would be better off and lead better lives because of that. Had someone questioned my father's actions, perhaps I wouldn't have been sexually abused by him for 14 years....every one thought he was sooo "charming."
Gross.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

A-MAZING. A MUST READ for everyone that doubts....
Revisado: 02-19-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Proof of Heaven to be better than the print version?
Yes. It is much better to hear the author read it the way he MEANT it to be read. And his Southern accent was charming.
What other book might you compare Proof of Heaven to and why?
Tom Piper's book is very good - and there another about a little boy that had an NDE - Colton Burpo - it used to be on Audible but is no longer there, sadly.
Which character – as performed by Eben Alexander – was your favorite?
Eban himself - Hearing his words in his own voice (and charming southern accent) helps the reader "be there" with him.
If you could give Proof of Heaven a new subtitle, what would it be?
"a medical journey there...and back!!"
Any additional comments?
The acknowledgements at the end were WAAAAAAAY too long. Not meant to be read out loud, in my opinion.Best book on the subject that I have read. Tom Piper's book is great, as is Colton Burpo's story written by his mom and dad - it was in my library but is no longer there for some reason - (Heaven is For Real).
Looking forward to reading additional, more current science-based books on the topic.
