Worth it for many, but ultimately not for me.
Revisado: 10-10-24
There are other reviews that convey this better:
Overall, the ideas, world building, characters, writing style, and narration are all well done, 4-5 stars each; they pulled me in and kept me immersed from the beginning, for a fair while.
However, there were issues in the early books that ultimately pulled me out of my immersion to the point I had this playing "in the background" without really paying attention. There are some pacing issues wherein some scenes go by too quick to get a handle on what's happening in the plot; and, yes, the sex talk is an issue too - i have no problem with such scenes at all, but they seemed to come up a bit too often, and when combined with the pacing issues, it can feel like the story is pushing through important plot scenes fast, just to get to another talk about "who's with who, mating, etc."
To repeat: the story Overall is good, but some of these issues combined to pull me out of caring or enjoying when things got better in later books. I've literally had the playback speed set high for books 5-6, and skimming chapters, just to get it over with
Many people will enjoy this series, it ddoes have promise, but some like me may loose interest at a point. I will not be getting books 7+, and I will likely not get another recommended bookset/omnibus without thoroughly checking reviews online.

Historia
This book is more a spy thriller than just a mystery as the exceptional Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot, gets greatly involved in international intrigue and espionage. He attempts to defeat a ruthless cartel trying to dominate the world … in essence super criminals forming a cruel coalition. Poirot’s efforts include help from his closest friend, Captain Arthur Hastings, and also Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard. As we begin the tale, Hastings is just returning from a voyage at sea that he despises and is venting his displeasure as he looks forward to joining his friend.

Okay story, poor narrator choice.
Revisado: 12-05-23
The plot was okay, given when it was written; however, the choice of narrator, sorry to say, doesn't fit well with expected French/European accents.
Additionally, the editor failed to leave "pauses and breathes" between sentences and dialogue; this fact makes the voice work worse.

Historia
On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all.

Well written, but overrated & boring.
Revisado: 10-11-22
I was recommended this series by a friend, and while I get why they liked it, I cannot bring myself to finish this book. I agree that it is very well written (grammatically speaking) and long - the narration is also well done.
That having been said, I will not be finishing this book or series. The opening chapter, while a good framing device, does not do a good job to peak my interest for any character or the setting, before starting on long winded and un-immersive backstories.
