During the real estate crash of the late 2000s, Christopher Brown purchased an empty lot in an industrial section of Austin, Texas. The property—a brownfield site bisected with an abandoned petroleum pipeline and littered with concrete debris and landfill trash—was an unlikely site for a home. Along with his son, Brown had explored similar empty lots around Austin, so-called “ruined” spaces once used for agriculture and industry awaiting their redevelopment as Austin became a 21st century boom town.

Great Book! Timely as Hell

This well written story of America from a perspective that is broader and more honest than anything I have seen before. It is also well read by the author. I enjoyed her earnest passionate reading.

Required reading to understand our age

While in no way is this book a favorable portrait of Trump, it does explain the motivation, temperament, and capacity of Trump and his closest staff. If you want to get beyond the “OMG” nature of the news cycle and see the underlying thinking that creates it, this is the book for you.
