These Are Fantastic!
Revisado: 01-05-25
The acting, sound effects, and dialogue is wonderful!
I do recommend reading the books first, before experiencing these dramatized adventures.
But for those who are familiar with Holmes' and Watson's adventures, and may have read them numerous times, these dramatized episodes really add a different dimension to them.
The supurb scting, drama and the well administered sound effects, really brings these familiar tales to new life!

I had to Stop listening when the Ghost of Christma, Present appeared.
Revisado: 12-19-24
Because these rewriters of all classics,, seem ti insist on making this "Giant", as he is described by Charles Dickens, speak in a female voice.
But Why?
I would have had no problem imagining the Ghost of Chritmas Past, in that more feminine voice.
But these wokesters always insist on turning everything around exactly backwards.
And what a shame! Because the drama and sound effects and tje narration, were very good, and enjoyable, up to that point.

Orphaned at five, nothing held Whidden back from embarking on sea life seven years later. Serving as an apprentice, he quickly proved his worth and earned himself a mate's position by his early 20s. Graduating to third, second, and first office, he ended his career in command of, and having part-ownership of, his own vessel. Ocean Life in the Old Sailing Ship Days records a series of real events from his childhood impressions of rough and ready seamen to his thrilling and brutal experiences of war.

A good Overview of a Remarkable Sea Career
Revisado: 09-21-24
However. the author could have made it much more interesting, if he had only given a few more details about his persona life, and his personal conversations with his friends and his shipmates.
But even with his somewhat impersonal style, of business like of writing, still, his sometimes remarkable accounts of his sea adventures, gives some very good insights, concerning life on those old sailing ships, and the amazing men who's once sailed them.

I can't even start to say how much I enjoyed adventuring with the new Oregon, and her typically motley crew! If you are an Oregon fan, or perhaps even if you aren't, this one is a grand adventure, and a cliff hangar to the end!

Historia
The spirit of Christmas has never been captured better than by Charles Dickens' masterpiece about Scrooge, Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit and all those wonderful spirits, especially the ghost of Jacob Marley. It can be fairly stated that Dickens was so successful with A Christmas Carol, that his characters have become more well known than the title itself.

Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

A Jack Reacher episode of the Twilight Zone?
Revisado: 11-05-21
Yep, the whole thing was kind of strange to me The narration did not help either because he spit and growled out almost every sentence and word, no matter what the situation was. And that made Jack Reacher and the whole story seem like a weird kind of angry to me. And the little details that make Jack reacher stories so unique, were mostly missing from this book. Also the lady character and the chief villain, seemed like very shallow characters to me. And there seemed to be an overall, strange lack of normal, everyday people, anywhere in the entire town, other than those directly related to the story.
It was supposed to be set in a small boarder town, next to the Mexican border. And they even spent some meaningful time in Mexico. And Reacher had to walk a fair distance near the border wall, over in Mexico. Yet in the entire story, they never met a single person with a Spanish surname, nor was it ever mentioned that they even saw a single Mexican on the Mexico side of the border wall.
It did have some good suspense in it, here and there, and especially towards the end of the story. But overall, it did not really start feeling like a compelling Jack Reacher story, until nearly at the very end of it.
To me it was weird, because more than anything else, because it felt like an episode of the Twilight Zone, starring Jack Reacher.

Will any of them survive the wreck of the Chancellor?

It was an OK story. But I guess the main charicter was so worn out by the end of his arduous ordeal, aparently he didnt have the energy left to tell any kind of a detailed ending at all.

This book was a poor fit for this reader
Revisado: 08-11-21
Here is an instance when the reader absolutely killed the story. To me he was like like listening to squeaky chalk, as the teacher is writing on the chalk board.
I suppose it is a good motivator though, for people to go on ahead and purchase a paid version.

To me, this is not Dickens' best novel, but...
Revisado: 07-14-21
...But, if you can stick it out for the first 10 chapters, it gets better, and I think is well worth the listening to it. Then, by "Book 2", things start getting very interesting.
Of course there is always tragedy in every Dickens story. But this story is full of surprises, and delights, especially toeards the end. And overall, I thoought the ending was one of the most satisfactory surprising, and one of happies endingst of all of Charels Dickens' stories, except for, "A Christmas Carol", and "Nicoluus Nickleby", and perjhaps another one or two in there somewhere.

Historia
First published in monthly parts from March 1852 to September 1853, this novel follows the fortunes of three pedestrian characters; Esther Summerson, Ada Clare, and Richard Carstone. The story they tell embondies Dickens' merciless indictment of the Court of Chancery and its bungling, morally corrupt handling of the endless case of Jarndyce v. Jarndyce, giving the novel its scope and meaning.
