Very Simplistic View
Revisado: 05-31-23
I'm not sure the author has any psychology credentials. He described one type of difficult person, calling them narcissistic, but I think he was actually describing someone with BPD. He describes them as drama-filled and attention-seeking. However, the difficult person in my life is usually quietly angry, hostile and lies by omission frequently and as much as I would like to, is not someone I can just walk away from. Don't waste your credit or money.

A professor shows a colleague a painting that he has kept secret for decades. The professor swears it is a Vermeer - but why has he hidden this important work for so long? The reasons unfold in a series of stories that trace ownership of the painting back to World War II and Amsterdam, and still further back to the moment of the work's inspiration.

Trouble understanding narrator
Revisado: 01-24-22
I read this book years ago and loved it (the actual printed book). However, it was hard to hear and understand auditorially. The recording quality is poor And I just couldn't understand the narrator well. Perhaps all the foreign names? Anyway, I didn't even finish it. I'd rather buy the actual book again.

So stupid and juvenile
Revisado: 08-14-21
I didn't even finish. The story and the writing were boring, predictable and, at times, cringe worthy. I'm really not sure how this book had an average of 4.5 stars when I used a credit to purchase it. Wasted credit.

A quiet and compelling story.
Revisado: 08-14-21
I had actually read this book when it came out, back in 2003? 2004? and I found it so engrossing that I read it again immediately. Maybe it was because I found this Ken character fascinating and a mystery. He's a low-level sociopath IMO, though I read an interview with the author and she insists he's not. I did find him creepy. Also, by complete coincidence, it was as if she wrote a story about my childhood friend's father. So I had a personal reason to be compelled. Regardless of that, I was completely drawn in, to learn about each woman and what he did (or didn't do) for her. How he was such a chameleon and how, in the end, they were all better off for having known him despite his actions. They were stronger, or comforted by his (limited) companionship, or more clear on what/who was important in their lives.
I listened to this a while ago, but I remember thinking the writing was decent and the narrator, too, though she wasn't super consistent with her accents. But overall, a really good listen.

First published by St. Martin's in 1958, Robert Traver's Anatomy of a Murder immediately became the number one best seller in America, and was subsequently turned into the successful and now classic Otto Preminger film. A slow build
Revisado: 04-10-21
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but I was a little disappointed with the ending. It was a long build and the last "twist" was a little anticlimactic.
The narrator was pretty good overall. I felt like he confused some of the character voices a little bit until he got going. If you like courtroom dramas and an old-fashioned book, set in 1959, you will enjoy listening.

Boring
Revisado: 02-03-21
I listened to this a while ago. As I recall, the reader was fine. I just found the story boring. I know it's not Shakespeare. I was looking for something light and fun, but it just wasn't that compelling.

Entertaining Suspense
Revisado: 06-11-20
Overall, a good and engaging listen. I did prefer their first story, The Wife Between Us, but if you are looking for a good beach read, this will do the trick. The narrators were both excellent.
Overall, I'd give this a 4 1/2 star rating but I don't know how to do half stars on here.
