This is a book about violin music
Revisado: 08-03-24
The story itself is very nice, female forward, interesting characters and plot. But the way it was marketed was totally off. It’s barely sci-fi. More like a deeply original story about the beauty of the violin and violin music. Send this to someone you know who loves violins, not sci-fi.

Historia
On her way to a speaking engagement, bestselling novelist Eli Grey gets into a cab and accepts a drink from the driver, trusting that everything is fine. She wakes up chained in the stranger’s basement. With no close family or friends expecting her to check in, Eli knows she needs to save herself. She soon realizes that her abduction wasn’t random, and though she thinks she might recognize her captor, she can’t figure out what he wants. Her only clues are that he’s very familiar with her books and deeply invested in the fantastical world she creates.

Spooky, gripping, great read
Revisado: 09-28-22
This is a gender-bend of “Misery” with several other fun modern surprises. It’s terrifying because it’s believable. Not for fans who don’t like suspense, but I found myself gripping the steering wheel several times while listening to this one, and this isn’t normally my genre. Narrator is PERFECT.

Historia
What we send out into the universe comes back to us magnified. Although the power of intention - the energy of positive thoughts - is widely accepted as an influential force in transforming lives, the exponential power of group intention has never been explored - until now. In The Power of Eight, Lynne McTaggart, an expert on the science of spirituality, reveals her remarkable findings from 10 years of experiments about how group intention can heal our lives - and change the world for the better.

little science, mostly anecdotes
Revisado: 04-22-19
I really wanted to enjoy this story, and see the science behind intentional thought. mostly the author begins to talk about science experiments, but only follows up on the results of about half of them. the rest of the book, and the majority of the meat, is anecdotes. which is actually pretty disappointing for someone like me, who came to this book looking for legitimate science around the power of human thought

Historia
In his most ambitious work to date, Thomas L. Friedman shows that we have entered an age of dizzying acceleration - and explains how to live in it. Due to an exponential increase in computing power, climbers atop Mount Everest enjoy excellent cell phone service, and self-driving cars are taking to the roads. A parallel explosion of economic interdependency has created new riches as well as spiraling debt burdens.

Should be titled "How tech is changing the world"
Revisado: 07-02-18
I almost always finish my books, but couldn't get through this
This presents as an advice book combined with social commentary, but it's neither. Its just an explanation of how the internet has changed our society, more of a history book than anything.
This is interesting, but the tone is very patronizing. I felt I had picked up a "help me" pamphlet designed for people (especially seniors) who had been living under a rock since 2005.
I have no idea who titled this book, but it was a bad choice.

Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again. He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

This is more like diary readings, rather than stories. I loved Naked and Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls.
But this?
I realized I was turning it on because it could reliably put me to sleep.

captivating and Luscious as the cover
Revisado: 06-10-17
the author's voice is like incense. I couldn't get enough of it. the story was very captivating, a great speak into 17th century Iran. she paints a beautiful picture, allowing you to experience the world with all your senses. I wasn't expecting this to be a historical fiction comma but it's one of the better ones I've read. Highly recommended

Fantastic performer
Revisado: 01-12-16
The narrator does an excellent job of capturing the dark, exotic ennui of Anne Rice's vampires without being cheesy. The plot struggles to get going from time to time as Rice lingers on her vampire's side stories in an almost fan-fic fashion, but it always picks up again. A few quotable nuggets of philosophy are to be found as well. Lovely to listen to!
