Historia
In the early 20th century, a mysterious woman tutors a young girl in the arts of mind reading and clairvoyance. From the creator of The Control Group comes a story that is both a bittersweet coming-of-age story and a diabolical revenge thriller, bound together by cinematic sound design and an intoxicating tapestry of original and traditional music, providing a kaleidoscopic tour from street-corner medicine shows to vaudeville amusement halls of the era.

Confusing, boring, made unbearable by too many commercials
Revisado: 08-13-23
The story started out pretty decent and suspenseful, making me curious. The narrators we’re doing a good job of it too.
So I kept listening. Then the first commercials came on. No big deal, as they can be easily skipped.
But then the story took a turn into a wtf story line that just didn’t make sense anymore.
And after another 5 minutes or so I didn’t care anymore what happened.
It’s nice that it’s free. But I wouldn’t get a dung beetle, just because it’s free either.

a captivating story that makes you want more
Revisado: 01-26-17
I am not good at putting the mess in my brain into words, so I'll just ramble on about what I thought of this book :-)
(Plus my native language is German, so my grammar and punctuation may be a bit messy.)
I got into fantasy by way of GoT, which I watched on TV.
The first fantasy book I read (well, besides Lord of the Rings, of course) was "Blood Song" by Anthony Ryan.
From there I went on to Brandon Sanderson, who set a very high bar for what I wanted to read.
As the Mistborn novels were read by Michael Kramer, I started browsing for books read by him and found "Circle of Reign".
Man, I couldn't put it away from the moment I started.
Cooper reels you into this world and keeps you captivated until the very end.
The characters are deep and interesting. The plot is complex enough as to keep you listening (and listening, and listening, ...), but not so, that you get so confused and lost that you lose track (which I hate when that happens).
I can't help compare new books I listen to - or read - to my favorite authors (like Brandon Sanderson, Stephen King, etc.) of that respective genre, as they are my reference for what I want to read next.
So when one of them puts out a new book, I will get it without reading a review. I'll buy it simply because it was written by one of them.
In my humble opinion Cooper can easily compete with the likes of Brandon Sanderson, Anthony Ryan, etc.
And after listening to "Circle of Reign" and being well into "Altar of Influence", Cooper is definietely on my list of those aforementioned authors.
I can't wait until "Song of Night" comes out.
