Historia
1944. Physics professor Alfred Mendel and his family were trying to flee Paris when they were caught and forced onto a train, along with thousands of other Jewish families. At the other end of the long, torturous train ride, Alfred is separated from his family and sent to the men’s camp, where all of his belongings are tossed on a roaring fire. His books, his papers, his life’s work. The Nazis have no idea what they have just destroyed. And without that physical record, Alfred is one of only two people in the world with his particular knowledge. Knowledge that could start a war, or end it.

Historia
Every day without fail, Travis Devine puts on a cheap suit, grabs his faux-leather briefcase, and boards the 6:20 commuter train to Manhattan, where he works as an entry-level analyst at the city’s most prestigious investment firm. In the mornings, he gazes out the train window at the lavish homes of the uberwealthy, dreaming about joining their ranks. In the evenings, he listens to the fiscal news on his phone, already preparing for the next grueling day in the cutthroat realm of finance. Then one morning Devine’s tedious routine is shattered by an anonymous email: She is dead.

Too political, lengthy
Revisado: 11-10-22
I'm sorry I wasted a credit on this book. It started off great until the politics started being mentioned. I listen to books to get away from real life, to escape. Instead I'm indirectly lectured on who is right a wrong about political issues.
Story was way too long, ending was disappointing too. Poor writing. Will not buy books from this author again.
Zachary Webber's narration was top notch.

Nothing thrilling about this book
Revisado: 08-12-22
I picked this book only because I'm an aviation enthusiast.
Maybe a professional narrator might've made this book better, but probably not. Authors should stick to writing, not narrating. The monotone narration gave me yawns throughout the story which I kept listening to, hoping it'd improve.
It didn't.
Awful story, awful narrating. Stay away from this book and author.

Way too long-suspect narration
Revisado: 04-28-22
I was interested in the book because of the song by Tom Petty but it's ironic the title is American girl but narrated by an obvious Canadian. This way too long story glorifies the getting away with murder. I won't read more Wendy Walker books.
