Historia
This magnificent novel by one of America's finest writers is the epic of one man's remarkable journey, set in 19th-century America against the background of a vanishing people and a rich way of life. At the age of 12, under the Wind moon, Will is given a horse, a key, and a map, and sent alone into the Indian Nation to run a trading post as a bound boy. It is during this time that he grows into a man, learning, as he does, of the raw power it takes to create a life, to find a home.

Historia
A serial killer stalks women in rural Ohio. He is deranged but brilliant, known only by the grotesque nickname the media has given him - The Doll Parts Killer. The name is apt. He dismembers his victims and leaves them in garbage bags in public places. A residential neighborhood. Next to a roller rink. Behind a Burger King. The investigation is a disaster. No physical evidence. Unreliable witnesses. To make matters worse, the FBI has lost contact with the star profiler working the case.

One of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain is a masterpiece that is at once an enthralling adventure, a stirring love story, and a luminous evocation of a vanished American in all its savagery, solitude, and splendor.

Poignant story, beautiful imagry
Revisado: 01-26-21
I want to listen again in a few weeks, to better appreciate the depth of each character. What a talented author to paint such deep felt images of the surrounding countryside, character's feelings, and wickedness of war. I'm so lucky to have read this account of another time before my time is over.

Such a sad commentary on our world
Revisado: 01-22-21
David Attenborough attempts to sum up humankind's sins against our world at the same time give hope that it's not too late to save ourselves from the tipping point that awaits (if we continue to use up our environment's beauty and bounty). At a few points it was difficult to continue to listen to our selfish, shortsighted actions that have caused our Earth to be so out of balance. I don't think I was encouraged by the author's suggestions of actions the world's population could take to mitigate the damage to the environment in the future. I question how the Earth's inhabitants could agree and implement solutions for generations to come. Also, there are unforeseen influences of modern day Hitler's, pandemics, the influence of ultra avarice schemers, and judgemental religious cults all ready to disrupt attempts of wide ranging solutions suggested. So, lets hope the world's people can somehow be convinced to attempt to halt our self-distructive course in time to save our world.

Historia
A major new biography of the Civil War general and American president, by the author of the New York Times bestseller A. Lincoln. The dramatic story of one of America's greatest and most misunderstood military leaders and presidents, this is a major new interpretation of Ulysses S. Grant. Based on seven years of research with primary documents, some of them never tapped before, this is destined to become the Grant biography of our times.

What a beautiful bio of a beautiful man.
Revisado: 01-15-21
I had learned a lot about President Grant from another bio of him, but wanted to see how this author treated him. Mr. White, the author, told Grant's life story with more warmth than the well touted other bio, when describing his youth and travails as a young soldier and his life as a general, husband, father, president, and dying author. I thoroughly enjoyed every page of Grant's life story. Like so many other northerners, President Lincoln has always been my favorite president, however, Ulysses Grant's life was consistently lived by a code of honor to his fellow soldiers, to his country, and to his family that I admire them both equally for their devotion to ending slavery. Also, this story of President Grant should be required reading to every GOP politician lap-dog today.

Revisado: 12-29-20
"Lightning" was a roller-coaster ride with intriguing backstories for the characters plus an exciting Sci-Fi premise. A couple plot turns were not surprising, but that did not at all distract from the prose of the story. I highly recommend the ride on this roller-coaster. And I hope my Holiday wish comes true...for many more years of exciting and imaginative novels from the magical K's.....Koontz and King.

Revisado: 11-03-20
First book I've read by Andrew Mayne......and will search for another by him for my Wish List. The plot held my interest which made it an easy listen. I liked the narrator's low key, which enhanced the plot's twists and turns. Can't wait to read another by Mr. Mayne.

No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

ORIGINAL & TIMELY & WELL WRITTEN STORY
Revisado: 10-07-20
Great cast of characters interacting in a story full of mysteries on several different levels. The characters were well developed. Most of all there were some characters that reminded me of our current political situation. The story grabbed me from chapter one and I couldn't turn it off till the end.

I LOVE THIS DETECTIVE TEAM
Revisado: 09-20-20
I enjoyed catching up with the "goings-on" at my favorite eccentric detective agency. Great plot with well defined red herrings. In addition, one more American now is aware of the poet Edmund Spencer. Robin is a worthy hero of working women.

Revisado: 09-16-20
Well written story with well defined characters. And Walt Longmire is a great hero. I plan to listen to another book in the series soon, as long as it is narrated by George Guidall....what a great voice and acting ability he has....perfect mix of voice and narrative skills. Loved the book. It was time well spent.
