Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Wil Wheaton is a great, story was not
Revisado: 11-11-22
Wil Wheaton is a talented narrator, I hope he does more audio books. Story is weak and riddled with plot holes... I can appreciate a far fetched story if it's sci Fi or fantasy, but this one was just absurd

Historia
When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

story is fine, but editing is so annoying!
Revisado: 07-24-20
the overall story and performance are average at best. but what I absolutely hated about this audio book is the annoying background humming. I understand they do it to create a sort of atmosphere for this thriller. which is fine, for a minute or two, but after that it's just iretating.
depending on the device I listen to the book with, the humming almost drowns out the narrator, it's seriously what ruined the book for me.

Historia
It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. Living in space should be exciting and full of adventure, except it isn’t, and he fills his time hacking 3-D movie posters and holographic adverts outside the stores in the retail zone. Petty thief Yasmine Emile Dufont is also from the WS Humility, but she is not bored....

the narrator is one of the best I've heard
Revisado: 06-26-20
like my title says. the narrator is definitely the best I've heard in all of the audiobooks I've listened to! he's great with accents and clearly brings each character to life by accentuating their personalities and giving the nuances.
the story itself is not bad. it's like a weird blend of hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, valerian (except without aliens), Scott Pilgrim vs the world and the aesthetic and visual humour of anime.
I can see Yasmin being played by Aubrey plaza if this was a movie

Revisado: 04-29-20
very good! everything about it. the story, narration. thoroughly enjoyed it. a bit weird for me to not have Jack Ryan in it but that's the point. also, with the pandemic currently happening, the story is weirdly relevant with current events. certainly an interesting time to be listening to this.

interesting story
Revisado: 03-12-20
Murphy's story is really interesting. it's different from other soldier momoirs because of the direction he took after leaving the military.though I do not agree with all of his opinions, his experiences are thought provoking and it provides a different perspective on certain aspects of life. performance wise he isn't too bad. it's a bit hard to describe but he clearly sounds like he's reading, unlike in other books where the narrator sounds more like he's telling a story live in front of you... if that makes sense

Historia
Members of the military’s special operations branches share a closely guarded secret: They love their jobs. They relish the opportunity to fight. They are thankful for it, even, and hopeful that maybe they’ll get to kill a bunch of bad guys while they’re at it. You don’t necessarily need to thank them for their service - the pleasure is all theirs. In this hilarious and personal memoir, listeners ride shotgun alongside former Army Ranger and private military contractor and current social media phenomenon Mat Best, into the action and its aftermath, both abroad and at home.

great humour and good read
Revisado: 08-23-19
Mat Best in war time is basically a real life Wade Wilson, except for you know, the super powers, aggressive cancer, extremely lucrative multi movie deal... oh and the fact that he most certainly does not look like an avocado had sex with an older avocado.
he's got a great sense of humour, and is very well spoken. he talks about his experiences while being home and abroad, and structured it in such a way that you get to have an un protected glimpse at his thoughts, and evolution as a person.
this book does not ask for pity, it does not victimize veterans, nor try to make hero's out of soldiers. instead it takes the uncommon approach of celebrating the thing which is military service, and his love for it. He, like many others, actually enjoyed being a soldier, and the things that he got to do during the war. it's a perspective that I never considered, and genuinely liked learning about.
at some points, this book had me crying from laughter and I certainly recommend it.

pretty good, but has some missed opportunities
Revisado: 06-13-19
like the rest of the series, the book is heavily detailed and well written. unfortunately, there were some moments that left me a bit disappointed.. there would be moments where a major problem will come up, and I would get excited because the concept would be so interesting and the solution, so mysterious, and then some super easily solution occurs and you just find yourself sitting there thinking, well what was the point of that?
for example (spoiler alert)
when jack Jr gets captured, and everyone thinks that he's either dead or screwed, and they were going to tell his dad. he and the two others just easily escape and go on about their thing (Jack's serious injuries hardly being an inconvenience the entire time). it would have been so cool to see the unstoppable president Jack Ryan, take on his worst nightmare, his hostage son. another is the fact that the terrorist is sending nukes into space and is just using it as a glorified bullet. they could have detonated an EMP over the United States (or atleast tried). that would have been incredibly fascinating! there are many other situations like that, that really had me hopeful for a more nail bitting and incredible narrative.
but don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the series and this book, it just didn't meet my expectations

Missed opportunities and unbelievable
Revisado: 04-12-18
The story itself was ok, but was very far fetched at times (I can't give any examples without spoiling the story). It was just so unbelievable at times that I just sat there shaking my head at the ridiculousness of it. I was entertained however.
The thing that dissapointed me was the narration. I'm not sure if it was lazy editing, scheduling issues or even if it was too expensive to have rc bray narrate the whole book. Once again not trying to give anything away, I wish that the two readers actually interacted with each other rather than having assigned sections of the book. The unfortunate result is that each reader takes on the roles of Vaughn and Angela when performing their sections. I think that a big improvement could have been made if Bray played one character while Whelan played the other.

Fantastic and detailed
Revisado: 04-10-18
What a great story. It dives deeply into the history of the Apollo missions that brought 12 very lucky men to the moon. My only criticism is the narrator. For my taste anyways, he's too monotone and dd not portray the emotions that would have been felt while reading
