Historia
Who are we, and how did we get here? These are two of the most fundamental and far-reaching questions facing scientists and cosmologists alike and have rested at the center of human intellectual endeavor since its beginning. They are questions that stretch across numerous disciplines. Philosophy, theology, evolutionary biology, and mathematics are just some of the fields looking to explain the emergence of human life.

A really interesting reading
Revisado: 03-26-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book it’s certainly a major accomplishment worth every penny. I think “Cosmosapiens” should be voted as the best science book of the year.
The book is eloquently and unbiasedly written with a tinge of sarcasm and humour. The author, John Hands, addresses historical concepts and current scientific orthodoxies in a clear and understandable way. This is a book that deserves to be read by anyone interested in science in general and the state of our knowledge today. I entirely agree that we need to approach science with an open mind, but J.H goes knowledgeably further. He dares to ask unapologetically scientific questions that need to be asked
Although the author John Hands feels that science is the right tool for allowing humans to understand ourselves, he is happy to highlight controversies in sciences' leading edge beliefs. He explicitly highlights the many aspects of science’s limitations. John hands' musings in logic and scientific facts, to produce a thoughtfully treaty for the eternally curious mind with emphasis on approaching science with an open mind, is not relegated by conformist trends. Science should base on tangible and proven evidence not on conjectural and speculative mathematical calculation to suit a theory. eg I like string theories but with all it's parallel universes, looped graviton, complex mathematics I feel it has become more of a conjecture than a reality
About time that a book such as this was published.
What other book might you compare Cosmosapiens to and why?
Not many this book is on its own...
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
the cosmology and physic bit..
Any additional comments?

Farewell to Reality

Historia
In this stunning new volume, Jim Baggott argues that there is no observational or experimental evidence for many of the ideas of modern theoretical physics: Super-symmetric particles, super strings, the multiverse, the holographic principle, or the anthropic cosmological principle. These theories are not only untrue; they are not even science. They are fairy-tale physics: Fantastical, bizarre and often outrageous, perhaps even confidence-trickery. This book provides a much-needed antidote.

honest and well written, witty and magical
Revisado: 07-31-14
What did you love best about Farewell to Reality?
I entirely agree with Jim Baggott . This book, in my opinion, is very realistic and well written.
It reinforces, if not going a step further than “Time Reborn by Lee Smolin)”
I am not qualified to pass judgement on theoretical physics, but I have to agree with the author. it sound like the judgement passed by Mr Baggot in criticising theoretical physics and addressing it as Fairytale physics, is well founded and well deserved.
Unfortunately, science is a game of patience. to prove or disprove a theory can take some time. But lately scientists have been expounding theoretical work such as ‘strings, supersymmetry, SUSIE, brane worlds” works that that can only be proven mathematically.
This book provides a much-needed antidote. It’s informed, comprehensive, and balanced.
Baggot in Farewell to Reality and Lee Smolin inTime Reborn both are one hundred percent spot on in their assumptions. Theoretical science has become more of a religion than a proven science. I will most certainly read it again. And certainly recommend it. The book is well narrated and supremely written
Who was your favorite character and why?
The author honesty
Which character – as performed by Philip Rose – was your favorite?
Extremely credible and very professionally
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I think we need more author prepared to challenge the status quo

Worth reading it

Historia
David A. Grandy's book moves from the scientific to the existential, from Einstein to Merleau-Ponty, from light as a phenomenon to light as that which is constitutive of reality. To measure the speed of light is to measure something about the way we are measured or blended into the cosmos, and that universal blending predetermines our measurement of light speed in favor of a universal or constant value.

This book, is morass of idea and words
Revisado: 08-02-13
What disappointed you about The Speed of Light?
Sorry, I did not liked it. I like physics and cosmology reading, but this book is a cogitative rambling, run around. With no connection to science or philosophy, with name thrown in for free, as to justify ones ideas and belief . The book is very poorly structured, with a lot inconclusive jabbering. At time seems to be delivered by a religious sect seller whilst proselytising. Is morass of ideas and words, but unfortunately it does not deliver nor enlighten the readers. Its a shame, as I was expecting a philosopher scientific point of view of the photon. This book is exoteric and alchemistical enough, rather than scientific....... MAYBE THE NEXT BOOK
What could David A. Grandy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
He should have structure and worded this book in a less exoterically and alchemistical way
Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Lenz’s performances?
I feel sorry for ML not easy to read a lot of jabbering
What character would you cut from The Speed of Light?
Humble suggestion, Maybe re write the book

Historia
The Trouble with Physics argues that a limited notion of time is holding physics back. It's time for a major revolution in scientific thought. The reality of time could be the key to the next big breakthrough in theoretical physics. What if the laws of physics themselves were not timeless? What if they could evolve? Time Reborn offers a radical new approach to cosmology that embraces the reality of time and opens up a whole new universe of possibilities.

Lee Smolin as done it again!!
Revisado: 07-07-13
If you could sum up Time Reborn in three words, what would they be?
Time Reborn by Lee SmolinI vehemently agreed with what Les Smolin had to say in his last book, Trouble with Physic. In my humble opinion, I think this book goes a step further, it is a milestone of its own right. Even though many of the ideas Smolin is arguing in Time Reborn, are hopefully, not labeled as speculative challenges, L. S. offers to an unaware reader, a head spinning and entertaining way to look and reconsider the notion of TIME in Physic. In reassessing what we know, thought and told about time. Just being a humans tool, to measure events and by being a figment of our imagination. Without time we would not be able to measure, the speed of a photon. I got to confess this book flow well, but I will need to re-listen it again. Please LS write more books Rgds Luigi P Porcu
What did you like best about this story?
I like the way Lee write and his mental process to dissect and postulate his belief
Which character – as performed by Sean Pratt – was your favorite?
Sean is an excellent reader
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Most certainly not. Due to the nature of the subject, this book certainly deserve more than reading or listening
Any additional comments?
Lee, please write more books, for the non scientist at large

Historia
In this vibrant, eye-opening tour of milestones in the history of our universe, Chris Impey guides us through space and time, leading us from the familiar sights of the night sky to the dazzlingly strange aftermath of the Big Bang. Because it takes time for light to travel, we see more and more distant regions of the universe as they were in the successively greater past. Impey uses this concept - "look-back time" - to take us on an intergalactic tour that is simultaneously out in space and back in time.

Amazing Journey
Revisado: 06-08-13
What did you love best about How It Began?
This is an amazing and mesmerizing book, a real window on our universe. Chris Impey illustrates one of the most complex topics in cosmology and physics in a pleasurable and page turner manner
What other book might you compare How It Began to and why?
This book its a rarity on its own
What does Andy Caploe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Andy is an Excellent reader although my IPod version was recorded with base a bit to high and therefore there is a noticeable reverb that can be annoying at time
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
How something so complex can be made so basic and interesting to everyone!!! Excellent teaching materials. I only wished it was longer

Historia
It is June 1962. In a hotel on the Dorset coast, overlooking Chesil Beach, Edward and Florence, just married that morning, are sitting down to dinner in their room. Neither is entirely able to suppress anxieties about the wedding night to come. On Chesil Beach is another masterwork from Ian McEwan - a story about how the entire course of a life can be changed by a gesture not made or a word not spoken.

well written and narated by Ian McEwan. Difficult to accept outcome of couple. I feel all couples have issues and difficulties that they have to over come. Love usually gets them through. I found it hard to accept this couple's decision.

I have read all books written by this author, but rather dissapointed with this one. Didn't quite hit the emotion that Maggie managed to find in her first book. Story good, but could have jelled a lot better.
