Historia
Right this minute, your body is carrying roughly 38 trillion microbial cells along with it—and in the vast majority of cases, you couldn’t live without them. On top of that, you harbor around 380 trillion viruses, most of which are either beneficial or benign. The Hidden Power of Microbes draws back the curtain on this vast microworld in 24 half-hour lectures delivered by acclaimed science communicator Dr. Melissa Booth, research scientist, professor, and Founder and Principal of The Science Communicator, devoted to training scientists to tell accurate, compelling stories about their fields.

Historia
For the last 20 years, George Saunders has been teaching a class on the Russian short story to his MFA students at Syracuse University. In A Swim in a Pond in the Rain, he shares a version of that class with us, offering some of what he and his students have discovered together over the years. Paired with iconic short stories by Chekhov, Turgenev, Tolstoy, and Gogol, the seven essays in this book are intended for anyone interested in how fiction works and why it’s more relevant than ever in these turbulent times.

Russian literature just became a little more approachable
Revisado: 03-24-22
i’m not sure I’m going to go out and get books by Tolstoy, Turgenev or others in this course, but to hear really talented readers present the short stories, and hear George Saunders review them, at least gives me a foot –in–the-door to understanding what we are supposed to be getting from them.

Wonderfully done; would be better in video.
Revisado: 01-21-22
dr. Michael Wysession is so well-in ormed in his subject (and just about everything related to it) that he is able to pull off an audio recording of his course without leaving the listener feeling completely shortchanged. I enjoyed these recordings during my treadmill workouts, and they made the time fly! The audio was great, but it’s very clear that this was originally recorded as a video presentation. Although I really learned a lot, it would have been better in video. If you are torn between the audio and the video courses, my suggestion is you go with the video. However, if it’s audio or nothing, your time will still be really, really well spent. Highly recommend it.

Historia
Why is it being built here, and why so quickly? These are the questions Cole, Bart, and Teddy, the three principals of True Triangle Construction, ask themselves when they are hired to finish a project for a mysteriously wealthy homeowner. Nestled in the mountains outside of Jackson, Wyoming, the house is a masterpiece, unlike anything they've done before. Once finished, it promises to be the architectural prize of Jackson and could put True Triangle on the map. But despite the project's lure, the owner is intent on having it built in a matter of months.

first class story; first class performance!
Revisado: 11-20-21
I am a fan of Nickolas Butler’s writing, so I knew this novel was going to be good. It was! However, I think I’m going to reserve this review to praise the performance by John Orsini. we have four primary characters and at least half a dozen secondary ones, all voiced so distinctively and convincingly that there is no difficulty telling them apart. The use of his vocal stylings to render the experience of a methamphetamine “high“ also deserves to be admired in and of itself.
An excellent performance of an excellent novel. Highly recommended. I am keeping it in my iPad so I can let other people listen to it.

Historia
Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger's syndrome. He's hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. But he has a special focus on one subject - forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he's always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he's usually right. But when Jacob's small hometown is rocked by a terrible murder, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob's behaviors are hallmark Asperger's, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police.

well researched, but too many plot lines left unresolved.
Revisado: 10-10-21
this is my third novel by Jodi Picoult. As with the previous two, she has researched her subject meticulously. She is extremely knowledgeable about autism and Asperger syndrome. In that regard, there is much to admire in her work. However, she has several significant plot lines left dangling, which - by comparison with previous works - is out of character. However, it was a fascinating lesson, and well worth the time and trouble.

Historia
As a botanist and professor of plant ecology, Robin Wall Kimmerer has spent a career learning how to ask questions of nature using the tools of science. As a Potawatomi woman, she learned from elders, family, and history that the Potawatomi, as well as a majority of other cultures indigenous to this land, consider plants and animals to be our oldest teachers.

Ironic: those who most need to read this, are the least likely to want to.
Revisado: 09-04-21
it is delightful and instructive to hear the book narrated by its author. To hear Native American teachings spoken by a Native American gives a deeper appreciation for their message.
I liked the book, and gave it five stars in general. The chapters tend to jump around somewhat, but the overall theme was well reinforced. The author is a very, very skilled writer and speaks with a forceful, poetic language.
I think copies of this book should be required reading in a lot of business schools. I would love to see it as core curriculum to computer-code writers and other folks who probably need a little better exposure to nature rather than computer screens.
