I think I understood about three of the eleven hours I listened to. I'm not sure how much there was to get with the circuitous way things were explained. Lines like "Every truth is also false" and "The creator can't exist without the made" drove me crazy. The few hours in the beginning when things were said concisely, especially concerning mentalism, saved it from being a one-star.

It sounds like rambling relativism; maybe I could've appreciated the philosophy even if I disagreed with it if the lines hadn't swung back around themselves so much.

There are alot of good Christian stories to listen to here. They're centered around themes like: dealing with challenges to faith: endurance of character: acceptance of higher purpose: reconciling faith in the face tragedy and of course forgiveness.

Stories range from abridged versions of stories found in the Bible to more modern experiences. From an overworked mother learning to be present with God to the biblical story of Job; it can range quite a bit emotionally.

The Narrator did excellent job telling these stories in a consistent relaxing tone. The quiet ambient sounds in the background also work well in inducing a state of calm.

My one and only small complaint is the few minutes between tracks. You'll only hear the quiet ambient sounds and that felt long at times. I'm not not knocking off any points because I get that these are stories to fall asleep to. I personally chose to listen to them during relaxing walks and I thought the audiobook just stopped at times.

The sounds are calming and I did have a good night sleep with it. How much those sound helped while I slept is hard for me to properly guage.

it is an interesting listen but it delves a bit deeply into the magical theory and it could be a bit hard to follow at times. All the theory is a preface to Dee's pursuit and is only viewed in a very generalized way; which is fair because Dee's pursuit of it is the focus but it would of really colored his fascination with a more specific example.

A little more could have been said about his suspect partnership with Edward Kelly.

Overall though this is a fine listen for those interested in this large part of Dee's life.

It was a nice relaxing listen that helped me fall asleep after a stressful day. It's a 37 minute meditation which I feel is sufficiently long for most nights. The soft spoken performance really does ease the nerves.

There were a few distracting quirks about the story that threw me off such as the mixing of cultural histories and mythologies. It didn't hampper my enjoyment of the story itself though it did have me double checking Eastern history.

The use of descriptive metaphor shines when the scene calls for it but it does overall feel a little overused. it slows pace of the story somewhat.

When the story shifted into horror is when it gets the most interesting.

The narrative feels constrained and sounds more like a summary. Almost everything is told in a matter-of-fact way many times while being vague on the details. The Narrator’s performance didn’t help either as through much of it he sounded bored.

Each story is only about a 20-minute listen which is enough time for a listener to get invested but not necessarily enough to properly convey all the concepts being stated here especially if precious time is squandered on repetition. The pacing is also hurt by unnecessary chapter breaks.

It’s a shame because the concepts are grand. We’re talking parallel worlds and a study of personal flaws amplified. I would suggest using these stories as outlines for larger works. Either that or trim the concepts so more love can be dedicated to description. Sometimes it's better for readers or listeners to ponder what the implications are.
