Historia
Shots rang out in Savannah's grandest mansion in the misty, early morning hours of May 2, 1981. Was it murder or self-defense? For nearly a decade, the shooting and its aftermath reverberated throughout this hauntingly beautiful city of moss-hung oaks and shaded squares. John Berendt's sharply observed, suspenseful, and witty narrative flows like a thoroughly engrossing novel, and yet it is a work of nonfiction.

Jeff Woodman brings this tale to life and keeps the listener riveted with voices so perfect for each character. I kept wondering if this was a true story or fiction so it was delightful to listen to the author at the end give his account of how this book came about. I highly recommend!!

Really Was Hoping For More...
Revisado: 10-27-21
I was very excited to listen to this book. The story intrigued me as I am a horse person and was looking forward to the adventure I thought this book would bring. The first thing that annoyed me was the narration, by the author, which unfortunately was very flat and monotone. Usually I love it when the author narrates their work because they can bring certain excitement and insight to their narration. But the lack of inflection seem like the narrator was just plain bored reading her own work and this took away from the story she was telling! Next thing that annoyed me was the author spoke a lot about being a victim in her own marriage and life. And yet while her divorce was taking place, she kept wanting to bury her head in the sand and not deal with the problems that were taking place, she just wanted to complain about it all. I got tired of the depressing narration and the author not taking responsibility for herself and I quit listening. No adventure here.

Always a Joy
Revisado: 02-28-21
James Herriot is an EXCELLENT story teller. I have listened more than once to these fascinating tales of his work life in the Yorkshire Dales. And I am always delighted to be there again as he takes us on his daily rounds and work adventures. These books are a classic, but in a most delicious and profound way as they stand the test of time. Christopher Timothy IS James Herriot!! His narration is so satisfying and spot on. No one could narrate the Herriot books better than Christopher Timothy. These books are perfect for long car rides with the entire family. We introduced these books to our daughter just before she entered vet school and she and her vet boyfriend found them as wonderful as we did.

Distracted by Narration
Revisado: 03-29-19
Usually I love it when an author reads their own work, but not this time. Besides the rustling of papers and other background sounds (which REALLY detract from the story), the reader does not time her delivery so that it flows through a sentence. There are a lot of unnecessary pauses in most sentences that stop the natural flow and this is a overall distraction. I stopped listening to the book because I could not pay attention to the story anymore. Disappointed.

A place you will never forget. Rosamunde Pilcher's Scotland...where the fields flourish with greenery, the bills bloom with purple, and the lochs glitter with the bright blue of the sky. A time you will never forget. September...when the heather is in full flower, the first chill of autumn cools the air, and the countryside stirs with the hunt, balls, dinner parties, and dance. Rosamunde Pilcher's September...a story of homecomings and heartbreaks, friendships, betrayals, forgiveness, and love.

Historia
Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Revisado: 11-05-18
I rarely listen (read) fiction. Fiction has to be exceptional for me to take the time to listen to it. This book is exceptional. Since I listened to it and did not read it, the narrator also has to be exceptional and Stephen Hogan made this book great. I was drawn into it with a few sentences. Could not stop listening. Fabulous. Highly recommended!

The Anatomy of Motive offers a dramatic, insightful look at the development and evolution of the criminal mind. The famed former chief of the FBI's Investigative Support Unit, John Douglas was the pioneer of modern behavioral profiling of serial criminals. Working again with acclaimed novelist, journalist, and filmmaker Mark Olshaker, and using cases from his own fabled career as examples, Douglas takes us further than ever before into the dark corners of the minds of arsonists, hijackers, bombers, poisoners, serial killers, and mass murderers.
