Historia
gentle romance begins innocently enough in the stalls of a London theatre where Catherine is enjoying her ninth and Christopher his thirty-sixth visit to the same play. He is a magnificent young man with flame-coloured hair. She is the sweetest little thing in a hat. There is just one complication: Christopher is 25, while Catherine is just a little bit older. Flattered by the passionate attentions of youth, Catherine, with marriage and motherhood behind her, is at first circumspect, but finally succumbs to her lover's charms.

I Think Elizabeth Von Arnim is Brilliant
Revisado: 05-06-24
I love the way Elizabeth chooses her words and similes so carefully to get them perfect for conveying emotion and thoughts. her characters are brilliant and real. I just wish I had read it sooner so I could of let this book be in my library for a reread like I reread Enchanted April and Elizabeth and her German garden but it has to be read by Eleanor Bron, it wouldn't be the same if someone else read it.

WW2 was captured so vividly. The narrator was wonderful in getting emotions and characters perfect. I love Maisie Dobbs books, this one was just as good as all the preceeding dozen.

Historia
The Writer in the Garden adds up to a glorious compendium of writing that is amusing, original, and idiosyncratic. Excerpts span not only the beauties of the garden but such far-reaching topics as weeds, the tribulations of gardening in a cold climate, the dangers of rare plant collecting, the delights of weeding, the pitfalls of growing roses, and the place of "tacky" in a garden. The book is impeccably read by a group of professional actors.

- De Kitty en 05-30-14
just a small irritation
Revisado: 12-22-22
I think all the quotes, poems, writings are lovely. many of the gardeners are my favorite garden writers. There only thing was that one section would barely end and the next begin without a pause, hardly a one narrator finish the last syllable spoke when it would run into the next section.

It’s 1938. The Great Depression lingers. Hitler is threatening Europe, and world-weary Americans long for wonder. Historia
In We Are What We Eat, Alice Waters urges us to take up the mantle of slow food culture, the philosophy at the core of her life’s work. When Waters first opened Chez Panisse in 1971, she did so with the intention of feeding people good food during a time of political turmoil. Customers responded to the locally sourced organic ingredients, to the dishes made by hand, and to the welcoming hospitality that infused the small space - human qualities that were disappearing from a country increasingly seduced by takeout, frozen dinners, and prepackaged ingredients.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Italy in April
Revisado: 12-22-17
I love this book. I have been aquainted with this story for over thirty years. I have watched the movie. Read the book even watched a play, my favorite easy is audible and Eleanor Bron as the narrator. Ever year the characters unfold and they are richer more filled out and real. I will probably go on loving and revisiting this story for many more springs, being transported for a winter cure to Italy in April.
