Historia
In July 1952, Dr. Walter Freeman arrived at the gates of a West Virginia asylum. In his medical bag he carried two metal picks and a surgical hammer. He had invented a “cheap, easy” ten-minute lobotomy. The press described it as a miracle cure, a new frontier in psychosurgery. That summer, in just twelve days, Freeman lobotomized 228 men, women, and children in West Virginia’s public mental hospitals. His blitzkrieg of brain surgery became known as “Operation Ice Pick,” named after the tools he wielded.

Interesting
Revisado: 07-08-22
Very interesting topic, and relatively underwhelming narration. From the beginning, it is obvious that Dr. Walter Freeman is a negative person - but neither did he portray himself as such, nor did the press of that time portray him as such. Narration of Chanté McCormick is well delivered and annunciated, but leaves no qualm to the listener that Dr. Freeman is another Dr. Mengele. Interestingly, even the author denotes that, at least in the USA, public opinion did more to eliminate lobotomies than the profession itself. The author would do well to draw parallel to Dr. Mengele, eugenics, and not only Elizabeth Holmes and opioid epidemic. Additionally, in next decade or so, we will see if a parallel to some newer developments and persons, such as Dr. Fauci is warranted.

Historia
Author and historian Tom Holland returns to his roots in Roman history and the audience he cultivated with Rubicon—his masterful, witty, brilliantly researched popular history of the fall of the Roman republic—with Dynasty, a luridly fascinating history of the reign of the first five Roman emperors. Dynasty continues Rubicon's story, opening where that book ended: with the murder of Julius Caesar. This is the period of the first and perhaps greatest Roman emperors. It's a colorful story of rule and ruination, from the rise of Augustus to the death of Nero.

An early review
Revisado: 03-09-16
What did you like best about Origins and Ideologies of the American Revolution? What did you like least?
Lecture 5 out of 49 ... There is a lot of eulogy for Native Americans, perhaps warranted, but extremely repetitive. Lot of material that was already covered in the lecture 4. Let's hope it get's better with progress, so far, it is rather odd. Will update.
What does Professor Peter C. Mancall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Nasal, whiny voice. But very animated.
