Historia
Jason and his companions managed to forestall the inexorable undead, but their battle is far from done. Both they and their enemies are scattered across a strange realm, one that someone must conquer if anyone is to get out alive. Territory by territory, factions fight to reunite their people and conquer the realm. Jason must contend with alliances he doesn’t want, friends he cannot find, and enemies ranging from angelic despots to the power of an undead god. He must face a realm that has been warped by his own mind and find a way to save a friend whose sacrifice got them this far.

conflicted but happy
Revisado: 09-30-24
I'll start by saying that once you are 11 books into a series you are committed, much like a marriage it has it's ups and downs and takes work for both parties to continue. This series is one of those I both love and struggle with simultaneously, the author has some real flaws in his writing that he doesn't seem to learn from over and over again, while on the other hand has some amazing ideas and world building.
This book was almost the divorce, the first third or half of the book was total garbage imo, just the author repeating himself over and over and over in the most bland uninteresting continuation of a battle that took a book and a half to complete.
Sometimes I get angry at how little faith the author has in his readers to, understand the plot, to remember past events or understand the mechanics of the systems that have been exhaustively covered in the past. I think the most improvement would be less repeating, less side quests, more development.
The second half of this book is what I came for and it did not disappoint in the least, probably one of the better parts of the whole series which saved the marriage.
I suppose I'll continue on and see what happens next.

Historia
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

Brilliant World Building
Revisado: 08-20-24
I absolutely Love this Author, he's completely incapable of reeling in his scope or outlining and pacing his stories properly, I'm sure many a writing teacher would scold him for rambling and letting the store get slow at strange points.
However I'd say that this is his strength, I've read two of his books so far, this one and Service Model and both have a way of telling a story where the main protagonist is, time, entropy, the world and setting and I just adore it.
He does not just drop lore from an omniscient narrator, but rather the world reveals itself in small segments as the main character learns it and it just keeps building and building in layers.
I'd say both books do really suffer from a pacing issue or having any one particular story to tell, what you end up with is a patchwork quilt of lives and stories that weave together to show an immaculate but old worn quilt made with care and attention.
I feel like perhaps his writing started as a way to cope with various existential dreads of the Author and sprawled out into narrative fictions living within his head.
Anyway I highly recommend, give it time, do not rush it and wait for the tale to deep into your bones.

Historia
Humanity is a dying breed, utterly reliant on artificial labor and service. When a domesticated robot gets a nasty little idea downloaded into its core programming, they murder their owner. The robot discovers they can also do something else they never did before: They can run away. Fleeing the household they enter a wider world they never knew existed, where the age-old hierarchy of humans at the top is disintegrating into ruins and an entire robot ecosystem devoted to human wellbeing is having to find a new purpose.

Charming and Endearing
Revisado: 07-19-24
I just loved this book, the performance, the story and the intelligence in which it was presented. Anyone who has worked in I.T. or with software will have a special appreciation for this book, while others can appreciate the charm and over arching message.
it can be a bit dry but if you liked the murderbot diaries this feels like a more authentic version of that to me.

Historia
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Basic, Boring, unlikable
Revisado: 07-10-24
The Basic idea is alright for the mystery with enough twists and turns but honestly this book was painful to finish. None of the characters were likable at moments they seem to have depth but then act in character breaking unawareness of basic things. It feels like it's a cast of infants regardless of age and you'd be better off listening to something else.
I will say the narrator did an excellent job, it's just a bad book, not her fault.

When the rules turn deadly, winning is everything. Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of Silent Child, Saving April, and The Broken Ones. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell and Paula Hawkins. The perfect couple. The perfect marriage. The perfect game. Effie and Ben May have everything. Success. Beauty. Glamour. But beneath the charming smiles and expensive clothes, a twisted game is in progress. A game for which only they know the rules.

Well Produced
Revisado: 02-01-24
I thought the narrators did an amazing job, this isn't my normal genre and I thought I'd just take a chance listen and was pulled in immediately. The writing is clever, the characters are smart and wicked and it gets more fun as you go down the rabbit hole.

Historia
Alexander Weiss inadvertently insults Athena, goddess of wisdom, and she casts him away on a forgotten isle filled with statues. Being marooned is bad enough, but the fact that the island is also the home of Euryale, elder sister to Medusa, makes the situation a touch worse. The only thing keeping Alex from being petrified is the fact that Euryale has taken a liking to the blundering mortal. For now.

sometimes clever mostly not
Revisado: 12-12-23
I really enjoy Greek Mythology and sometimes cheesy esikai harem/romance books so this seemed a solid fit. It has some interesting thoughts on the how the Gods function socially, how Love works and how people work but I just was not buying any of it.
these characters were all infants and I'm highly suspicious that this Author understands people in general other than very shallow surface impressions. I didn't find a single character believable in how they thought or handled things.
some points I was able to turn my brain completely off and just go along for the ride as I did enjoy the setting and struggles presented with the main Character but then something he would say or do would be so unbelievably dumb that it would pull me right back out of the narrative.

The ratings and views are off the chart. The fans just can't get enough. The dungeon gets more dangerous each day. But in a grinder designed to chew up and spit out crawlers by the millions, Carl and Princess Donut need to work harder than ever just to survive. They call it the Over City. A sprawling, once-thriving metropolis devastated by a mysterious calamity. But these streets are far from abandoned. An undead circus trawls the ruins. Murdered prostitutes rain from the sky. An ancient spell is finally ready to reveal its dark purpose.

Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.
