Unbearable Narrator

Awful narration

The stories are great, but the narration was incredibly bad. They picked an reader with a strong Indian accent, obviously not a native English speaker. That makes no sense. The setting is India, yes; but the book is written in the first person by an Englishman. It wouldn't matter (and would just amount to a weird choice), if not for the narrator's inability to properly pronounce a large number of English words. It isnt completely incomprehensible, but when combined with the strong accent, it makes you have to keep saying, "Wait, what did he say???" It makes for a really annoying listening experience. Some examples:

1st is the best. 2nd less so. The others are just weird and in my opinion don't seem like Kolchak at all, but rather some entirely new character who just happens to have the same name.

I really love the narration. It was very well done! The stories themselves are the ultimate Lovecraft collection. This and the other volume are among the few things I listen to over and over. Great material, wonderfully presented.

worst narration imaginable

the narrator pronounces his S's with such a piercing whistle that it was intolerable. I tried to force myself to listen to it anyway but just could not do so. The content of the book sounded promising but I couldn't get past the second chapter due to this irritating assault on the ears. I will likely end up buying the Kindle version and reading it. the only reason for the low overall rating of 3 is because the audio version was not usable to me.
