It's never wise to talk to strangers...and that goes double when they're dead. Unfortunately, seventeen-year-old Anna Morgan has no choice. Resting on a park bench, touching the turnstile at the Metro station - she never knows where she'll encounter a ghost. These mental hitchhikers are the reason Anna has been tossed from one foster home and psychiatric institution to the next for most of her life.

WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE
Revisado: 02-25-25
I promised myself that I would start doing reviews this year and this series is the most delightful surprise in a long time (and I read a lot)! Well written, original and captivating story line, and characters that I became invested in, I haven't been able to put it down. I don't want to ruin the surprise, so I won't say much more than the heroine is 17 going on 170 (in a way), and the action makes it almost impossible to stop reading and do the dishes. It is so so good.

This Series is a Surprise Gem
Revisado: 11-09-22
I review maybe two percent of my audible purchases, but this series is one of the best I have encountered in quite a while. It is well written, and the dialogue is laugh out loud funny. The premise is one that isn't encountered often enough, and the stories are meticulously plotted. i actually looked up the author and no wonder I am fanning. This is a woman I wish I could know. I confess I call this kind of literature brain candy, but it is absolutely brilliant brain candy! Warning, don't start it in the evening if you want to get up early the next morning.

Historia
The Genevians are at war with Nietzschea...and they’re losing. In a last-ditch hope, the Genevian mech program was founded. Its goal to augment humans into cyborg fighting machines; mechanized warriors sent to hold the front lines against an enemy that was storming a hundred worlds. Yet few wished to undergo the brutal process, and so criminals were used, their minds enslaved by control chips and obedience enforced through discipline.

The universe created by this author is awesome. Excellent narration as well. I read or listen to hundreds of books each year and promised myself to start reviewing my books as a way of acknowledging some of the amazing writers today.

Historia
On a cold spring night in 1952, a huge meteorite fell to earth and obliterated much of the East Coast of the US, including Washington, DC. The ensuing climate cataclysm will soon render the Earth inhospitable for humanity, as the last such meteorite did for the dinosaurs. This looming threat calls for a radically accelerated effort to colonize space and requires a much-larger share of humanity to take part in the process. Elma York’s drive to become the first lady astronaut is so strong that even the most dearly held conventions of society may not stand a chance against her.

Like finding an Old Friend
Revisado: 02-05-19
I rarely do a review, but I have to rave about this series. It satisfies on so many levels. As author and narrator Mary Robinette Kowai does an outstanding job. And even though it is an alternate universe, it's depiction of the 1950's and 1960's is so spot on, capturing the subtleties of the time in so many ways it took my breath away. Women's roles, racial issues, politics, religion, all dealt with the velvet glove of the southern lady. I go through 5 or 6 books a week. This book is now in my personal top ten and I will look for more from this author.

Intelligent and Compelling
Revisado: 04-02-17
Where does Not Alone rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I have been a sci fi geek since I met Tom Swift when I was ten. This book rates up there in at least the top 20 and the only reason it is not in the top 10 is that it was so vividly written I won't be able to forget it and listen again for at least two years.
Which character – as performed by James Patrick Cronin – was your favorite?
The main protagonists, as they matured through the book. I know people like this, it was very accurate and consistent in portrayal.
Any additional comments?
I am sitting here in China writing this, and I was amazed and enthralled at how accurately this author captured so many elements of what is going on today in terms of politics, diplomacy, international relations, social media and so much more. I went through this book in two days, I couldn't stop listening.

Historia
Most people avoid the dreaded Whitechapel district. For Honoria Todd, it's the last safe haven. But at what price? Blade is known as the master of the rookeries - no one dares cross him. It's been said he faced down the Echelon's army single-handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood craving he's been quicker, stronger, almost immortal. When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She's so...innocent. He doesn't see her backbone of steel - or that she could be the very salvation he's been seeking.

And She Does it Again!
Revisado: 04-12-16
Where does Shadow Rites rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This series is in my all time ten best series I have ever read. It is amazing that each book just gets better and better.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Getting to know these characters, all the characters, especially Jane Yellowrock, is like being adopted into another family.
Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?
Ms Hvam does an awesome job as Jane. I can't imagine a better voice or characterization. You can hear her smile or sadness. I am also so impressed with Beast.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Does it count, I wonder, when you are just sad when the book is over? That you know it will be many months before you can return to this universe.
Any additional comments?
If you are looking at reading this book and haven't read the others, stop now. Enter this world at the beginning. Reading this series is an extraordinary experience, and experiencing the growth of these characters, mentally, emotionally and spiritually is not to be missed.

Favorite Series
Revisado: 04-06-16
I read voraciously, always have. Every now and then I encounter a book or better yet, a series, that is so good that out of the tens of thousands of books I have read it goes to my top ten list where it will stay for decades. The Jane Yellowrock series is on that list. Every book in the series just gets better and better. Faith Hunter is an awesome author and Kristine Hvam is perfect as the narrator. In this 8th book of the series characters were made even more real, more compelling and more complex and I loved every word. Thank you Faith for so enriching my universe.
