Historia
From the unique perspective of the executive who discovered them, One Step Closer reveals how Brad Delson's college internship was a catalyst for a group of young musical visionaries, led by Mike Shinoda, which gave rise to a band that survived countless rejections, exceeded everyone's expectations but their own, and became the voice of a generation. This against-all-odds story chronicles the early days of Linkin Park, from their first demo and Whisky a Go Go performance as Xero, through their tireless efforts to perfect their iconic sound.

Is anyone really happy?
Revisado: 12-25-22
I've become enamored with memoirs from highly successful people as of late. Olympians, artists, actors, comedians, and CEO of Nike. Every single one of these successful individuals have suffered immensely. This book doesn't even expose us to their "life on the road". After seeing what that life looks like I'm pretty certain that very few people could handle it.
All of these people who complain that life is harder for then than it is fir everyone else, just needs to make some real friendships. Chester was sleeping in his car while the band kept getting rejected by every record label.
I've thought to myself sometimes that the entire group has talent that no one else had, and that there was no way they didn't end up as the most popular group, but after you listen to the story you will see that it's not true. We are so lucky that this guy fought so hard to get them a deal, and then fight even harder to keep the flame going.
They were a really amazing group!

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

99% perfect
Revisado: 11-09-22
What an amazing story. Trevor Noah takes us into his world. A world where his own mother had to pretend that Trevor wasn't her child for fear of retribution. A community where men would brag about "keeping their women in line".
This story will make you laugh, it will make you angry, it will make you cry. you get the full gamut of emotions. Hearing that he was an ugly pumple faced kid is almost unbelievable since he's so handsome and charismatic and dated the most attractive woman I've ever seen "Minka Kelly".
I'm not religious, anymore at least, but I will say that it's a miracle that Trevor has remained so positive going through all that he's gone through. His childhood reminds me a lot of my own, but I was very aggressive and I used to get into a lot of fights.
There was only one single statement in the entire book that he should have removed and I don't know what inspired him to include it. It is the only statement that makes me question his real motives. He said for mixed folks that there comes a time when you HAVE TO choose a side. This is divisive nonsense that keeps the cycle of hatred to repeat over and over.
Young children don't "choose a side" when they are playing with kids at the playground. My daughter could care less if the kids she is playing with are asian, black, white, or hispanic. This choose a side nonsense is "self-created" torture. The whole well we aren't kids anymore and so it's different is a load of rubbish. My mom is Hispanic and my dad is Jewish. I have never had to choose a side. I love both equally. I don't have more white friends than Hispanic friends. I just can't believe that someone as brilliant as Trevor could say something that ignorant. Other than that one thing it was a phenomenal read.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

what a great audible book
Revisado: 06-14-21
This was so amazing. It will make you laugh, cry, ponder, and smile. I know its unhealthy to compare yourself to other people, but good I wish I was more like Matthew. He's so darn positive that you wonder how he maintained that level of positivity for so long especially at his level of success. it also makes you think that's probably why he achieved that level of success. If you are a fan of Matthew you will love this book, if you aren't and know nothing about him you will still love this book. The fact that he narrates it makes it freaking gold! I am sad it's over.

Historia
Human beings are primates, and primates are political animals. Our brains, therefore, are designed not just to hunt and gather but also to help us get ahead socially, often via deception and self-deception. But while we may be self-interested schemers, we benefit by pretending otherwise. The less we know about our own ugly motives, the better - and thus, we don't like to talk, or even think, about the extent of our selfishness. This is "the elephant in the brain".

a bit cynical, but still informative
Revisado: 06-04-21
I think that most people will say that the book states the obvious, that all of us are self serving, deceptive individuals to some degree. The thing that the book will open your eyes to is how many of us think we are immune to certain things, but others aren't. The book has a section on marketing and most of the people felt that the marketing tactics would be effective on "other" people. This piece forced me to stop and reflect. If you are a religious person you will not be open to the chapter on religion, which really points out the point of this book. We all live in echo chambers, and we like it that way. When I went through the first half of the book it kind of felt like a college sociology course. OK, people suck, our structures are designed to help out a small group, now what? The authors don't ever get on a soapbox which is what most authors end up doing. They actually don't leave you wondering where they stand on these issues as they state them openly, which I really liked. Overall I think that there's some good thought provoking stuff, but there's also some painfully obvious stuff. Still don't regret the purchase!
