Historia
Examining murder from an insider’s perspective, Matt Murphy—a former senior deputy district attorney and current ABC News legal analyst—discusses cases from his career, how they strained his personal life, and how he found peace seeking justice for victims and their families. Part taxonomy of murder, part prosecutor’s handbook, and part personal memoir, The Book of Murder goes through a dozen cases and his recollections of his 26 years in the Orange County DA’s office (17 in the Homicide Unit).

Captivating and well told!
Revisado: 04-19-25
I listened to this one, and absolutely loved it. Captivating and well told. True crime and memoirs are hit or miss for me. This seems the be the best of both. You get the inside view of some wild cases, and a look at how he navigates his life and approaches prosecution. Because he narrates the audible version, it was like he was with me in the kitchen or on a long drive, just telling me his crazy “work” stories.
I heard Matt on the Armchair Expert pod, and if you liked the interview, I think you’ll love the book!
And, I received a juror summons in the mail right after I finished it…very sim!

Historia
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Wait…
Revisado: 04-22-24
This book left me asking so many questions! I need the answers. What the hell is happening next?! I love the world building, the magic, the characters and their arcs, the politics…all of it is excellent. Fast paced and nothing is over done. The mysteries that unfold had my mind racing with possibilities, only to be constantly surprised. The ending was a good ending, it felt just right. But then there’s the epilogue, and what the actual hell am I to do now?! If I had known, I would have waited until the next book was out or closer to release. I am really looking forward to getting back into this world!
PS- the voice of the reader threw me at first, but honestly fits well once you give it a little time.

At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Beautiful
Revisado: 11-11-23
This is a beautifully told story. Abraham Verghese narrates, which took me by surprise, because it’s rare that an author is such a good voice actor. I think he did a fantastic job. The story covers the lives of many characters over many generations, so yes it’s long, but written in a way that made me want to savor it. honestly, there were a few times where things were slow for me, but given a little time, I was pulled right back in. Now that I have finished the story, and understand how it ends, I want to I listen to this again! I love the twists and turns of this, and wonder what connection will make the second time around.

Frustrating, relatable, and beautiful.
Revisado: 08-21-23
“It’s not the big things that send you over the edge, it’s the little things. The stuff that sneaks up on you, when your holding onto the things that matter.”
I was hooked pretty quickly. The story was relatable on so many levels, from a shirt too tight, to the phone battery too low, and of course being a women in a world where we are expect to put our head down and “be good.” It was frustrating, suspenseful in ways I wasn’t expecting, and tied together beautiful.

Historia
Kentucky, 1850. An enslaved groom named Jarret and a bay foal forge a bond of understanding that will carry the horse to record-setting victories across the South. When the nation erupts in civil war, an itinerant young artist who has made his name on paintings of the racehorse takes up arms for the Union. On a perilous night, he reunites with the stallion and his groom, very far from the glamor of any racetrack.

More than just a horse!
Revisado: 06-30-23
This was really well down story! I don’t think you need to be a horse person for this. The characters are compelling and all the different time lines and connections will keep you hooked. I will listen to this again!

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

I learned, I laughed, I said “gross” out loud many times, and loved this book!
Revisado: 01-29-20
I’m giving this book 5 stars because I was hooked. It was interesting, sparked curiosity, and taught me so many things. It had the perfect amount of gross humor and wit. I laughed and said “ewe” out loud many times over. I just finished and can’t wait to listen again. I also started recommending the book only a few chapters in. The performance perfectly delivered the dry humor. The story was intriguing. Overall, I’m so happy to have this book to listen to again and again!
