A very interesting course. Not having seen him work out the equations does not take away from any of the points he is making. This and another course on complexity theory can change your way of thinking. I highly recommend both courses.

The world will never see another peace conference like the one which took place in Paris in 1919. For six months, the world's major leaders - including Woodrow Wilson, president of the United States, David Lloyd George, prime minister of Great Britain, and Georges Clemenceau, prime minister of France - met to discuss the peace settlements which were to end World War One.

I have listened to dozens of the Great Courses offerings and a few of the Modern Scholars. This is in the top tier. The professor is fascinating to listen to, and she has an excellent command of an engaging topic. This is worth your time.

Typical Keillor. This was a beautiful reflection of Keillor’s philosophical musings on aging. It provided me with much to think about.

Historia
Do the lessons passed down to us by history, lessons whose origins may lie hundreds, even thousands of years in the past, still have value for us today? Is Santayana's oft-repeated saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," merely a way to offer lip service to history as a teacher-or can we indeed learn from it? And if we can, what is it that we should be learning?

Another excellent course by Dr. Fears.
Revisado: 09-11-21
Dr. Fears is a masterful storyteller and presents history in a fashion that is most engaging. History presented as a demonstration of various philosophies that are meaningful to our daily lives. I've listened to many of his courses, and they are all excellent.

Join astrophysicist Sarah Rugheimer to reveal what we know about detecting life on other planets.

What drug lords learned from big business. How does a budding cartel boss succeed (and survive) in the $300 billion illegal drug business? By learning from the best, of course. From creating brand value to fine-tuning customer service, the folks running cartels have been attentive students of the strategy and tactics used by corporations such as Walmart, McDonald's, and Coca-Cola.

Historia
When you're a spy, you see a lot of strategies. It's your job to see grand strategies. Regional strategies. National strategies. Most of all, individual strategies. It's your job to see them and to understand them, because that's how you know when threats exist. To identify threats, you're infiltrating an enemy's organization. You're figuring out who is making decisions. And who isn't. You're collecting intelligence on what they know. And what they don't know. You're figuring out their plans.

Both of his books are interesting and to the point. I’ve read entire shelves of books on strategy and game theory. This brief book is the most common sense and applicable approach. I highly recommend this and his other book on thinking.

Practical and evidence based leadership
Revisado: 03-28-15
Somewhat of an update of his previous book, but a worthy read for any leader in healthcare. I'm executive in a large health system and not a day goes buy where I don't make a reference to some of these principles. Chapter three on presentation of data is required reading for anyone working directly with physicians. I will likely read this book again.
